Our client is a world leader in the development of cyber and intelligence solutions, providing these solutions to worldwide customers. They are looking to recruit a Software Manager to join their team in Cheltenham.

As a Software Manager you will provide hands-on technical and managerial leadership to our software engineering teams. Principally you will be a hands-on technical lead within one of our customer focused projects. You will have responsibility for the Software Line Managers and need a passion for people management.

You will have the willingness to participate in professional development and to support the company in broader roles where required e.g. Scrum Master, mentoring, line management.

You will need to be a Software Engineer and have a background in leading, managing people and mentoring and also have the technical experience as a hands-on Software Engineer with knowledge of technologies and methodologies to produce quality code. Awareness of deployment infrastructure technologies. You will be at a more senior level, to have a broader knowledge in the fields of consultancy and Systems Engineering with experience of Agile / Lean development practices.

A strong background and passion for people management to lead a software team. Experience in creating clean, well-constructed code following agreed standards and tools.

Knowledge and awareness of technologies and methodologies to produce quality code. Awareness of deployment infrastructure technologies and have a broader knowledge in the fields of consultancy and Systems Engineering.

Key criteria required...

Experience in the design, development, test and integration of quality software.
Hands-on coding experience in Java, and keen to learn a broad range of technologies in the Java stack.
Experience working as part of an Agile development team.

Also, we'd love it if you have experience of...

DevOps approaches and associated tools such as Kubernetes, Docker and Jenkins.
Cloud-based architectures.
Restful API's and microservice architecture.
Data Quality tools such as SonarQube.
Different programming languages, such as JavaScript, C++ and Python.
Working with open source products, such Nifi or the Elastic Stack (ELK).
