Our client is an established and reputable heavy civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating on a nationwide basis. Their portfolio of services and professional, qualified staff will typically provide a total bespoke solution for a wide range of sectors such as building, infrastructure and rail, amongst many others. Their projects begin with full site surveys and preparation of working drawings and designs (to BS and Eurocode standards and in full compliance of Local Authority and NHBC requirements), through to total delivery and co-ordination of works to fulfil their client's programme requirements. The company endeavour not only to complete projects safely, timely, successfully and to the highest of standards, but also to add value to clients by giving them total support from the beginning to end of any contract.

Due to continued and sustained growth in the UK the company is now looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor & Estimator to assist in their further ambitious expansion plans. The role will also involve an element of design support, and client liaison and development.

The Role

* Determine and price, value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications utilising all aspects of your expertise to submit bespoke bids and proposals to clients

* Attend pre and post tender bid meetings with clients and their representatives

* Work under deadline pressures in an efficient, composed and calm manner

* Help to identify new suppliers and sub-contractors to improve safety, performance and profit

* Oversee and manage all commercial activities and financial governance, working closely with the operations teams

* Continual review and challenge of existing commercial processes to identify and implement best practice

* Draw up, contracts and sub-contracts or ensure contracts have been drawn up prior to commencement of work and to review contracts drawn up by third parties

* To assist with pre-construction commercial activities, such as vetting and approval of terms, contract evaluations, and sub-contract procurement and selection

* Identify risk and opportunities associated with contracts

* Provide commercial and contractual advice to operations teams

* Notification, preparation and agreement of any change, claims or extensions of time that may arise

* Undertake commercial audits for each contract to ensure good practice and compliance with company procedures and client specifications

* Prepare monthly financial reports, identifying trends and areas for improvement

* Provide final accounts, including the measurement and agreement of interim assessments, including early warning notifications and compensation events

* Financial reconciliation and general contractual administration

* Preparation of weekly and monthly CVR reports, including KPI information, estimates of defined costs to complete, and any pain or gain position

The Person

* A Quantity Surveying Degree or tertiary qualification is desirable, however relevant experience will be equally acceptable

* Possessing a sound working knowledge of any area of the groundworks or heavy civil engineering sectors, including working under various forms of contract

* Knowledge and understanding of pre-construction, tendering and procurement processes

* Knowledge of construction techniques and the general sequence of events for a wide variety of contracts, schemes and projects

* The ability to apply the knowledge and principles of quantity surveying and (or) estimating practices to various projects

* A working knowledge of basic plant, equipment and materials
