Event Manager - Cardiff

Fixed term: to start as soon as possible and to run until the end of December 2021

Full time (37.5 hrs per week) - initially working remotely, with a phased return to working from our office in Cardiff expected from October 2021.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience (Circa GBP23-26K) (plus pension, private healthcare, generous bonus scheme)

Forum Europe is the leading business of its kind, delivering European and global policy conferences for more than 30 years. The company has its headquarters in Cardiff, with most events usually taking place in Brussels and around Europe, but currently taking place virtually and entirely online. In this virtual context, we have carved out a leadership position and now require additional support.

Forum Europe is seeking to recruit an Event Manager to lead on client projects. Due to social distancing, the candidate will be required to work remotely until a return to the office is possible. We envisage a phased office return taking place later in 2021, and should this happen following all guidelines and internal policies at the time, there is an expectation that the successful candidate would work from the office in Cardiff for a proportion of their time (to be agreed). A laptop and equipment will be provided, but a good home internet connection is essential.

Candidates must have project and event management experience.

The role will include complete training and principal duties will involve:

  • Working as part of a team to deliver high-quality international policy events;
  • Leading on the delivery of a range of client-orientated events, working with the company directors to deliver projects, and taking full responsibility for the logistical and event management tasks;
  • Communicating, maintaining and developing client relations - taking ownership over specific client accounts and building strong, trust focussed relationships with them;
  • Setting timelines and deadlines, priorities and targets for each project, and monitoring of these activities to ensure that they are met;
  • Management and control of event budgets and costings;
  • Liaision and co-ordination with all speakers and delegates, providing excellent customer service throughout;
  • Create and coordinate pre-event staff briefings to ensure those involved in delivery have clear roles, events run smoothly, and are fully effective in achieving the agreed objectives;
  • Development and management of event websites (via an internal content management system) and virtual event platforms;
  • Responsibility for internal and external post-event reporting and follow-up.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience in project management or event management role required;
  • Detail-orientated, with excellent organisation skills and the ability to prioritise and handle more than one project at a time while working remotely;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work positively with others vital;
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong work ethic and attention to quality and detail;
  • Computer literate, with a good knowledge of Word and Excel;
  • Ability to proactively bring new innovative ideas and improved processes to the team for consideration - think differently and execute exceptionally;
  • Ability to solve problems and successfully engage with appropriate technical and internal resources.
