Dawson Levy Resourcing are happy to be recruiting a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a major client of ours on a permanent basis working within the Water Industry.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Civil Engineer based in the North of England. You will be responsible for the production and coordination of outline and detailed Design Deliverables together with tender stage design on combined Process / Mechanical / Electrical / Civil schemes in the water industry.

What you'll be doing day to day

Ascertaining Clients requirements either through reference to their specification documents or more likely through visiting sites with their nominated personnel
Working alongside the Design Manager, the Project Manager and delivery team to ensure scheme designs are value engineered and adhere to client specifications whilst retaining appropriate levels of operational security and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
To prepare and review detailed engineering calculations and solutions from inception to completion of schemes utilising our design partners, individual knowledge, site installation and construction personnel, working in a common data environment
Manage and coordinate design production between in house design teams, external design companies, our suppliers and subcontractors and where applicable our client's designers
Liaison with client's engineering staff or where applicable their design consultants to ensure designs are approved in accordance with the timescales stipulated within the contract
Attend internal and external design reviews (e.g. HAZOP and ALM reviews) and where applicable progress meetings
To promote innovation and challenge parties involved to ensure cost effectiveness in all design activities
Technically assessing supplier quotations to ensure they meet project requirements
Line manage, mentor and guide developing engineers within the team
Preparation of documentation in accordance with the CDM regulation
Maintaining the quality of your own output and that of junior staff under your guidance in accordance with IMS ProceduresWhat we're looking for in a candidate

Industry applicable MEng, BEng, BSc or equivalent in a civil discipline
Chartered (or close to chartered) status with a relevant professional body, with 8+ years' experience within the water industry
Good knowledge of relevant conditions of contract in order to manage change control (eg NEC)
Understanding of whole life costing along with value engineering / innovation principles
Practicing knowledge of CDM regulations including Designer duties
Working knowledge of water company business practices and procedures
Excellent ICT knowledge and skills, including 3D software, as well as knowledge of BIM requirements for project delivery.
Good knowledge of multidisciplinary design (eg MEP)
Hydraulic analysis of civil structures including open channel hydraulic calculations
Interpretation of ground investigation findings
Identification of temporary works requirements
Structural design experience would be preferable
Experience and understanding of water and sewage treatment processes and the equipment / system requirements
Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload of yourself and others and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines
Able to work in a busy environment under pressure
Excellent communication skills (email/phone/face to face)
