Job Purpose:

The post holder works with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) in ensuring that the Council complies with its obligations under Data Protection, Freedom of Information and other associated legislation and ensuring that an effective framework is in place to meet legal requirements and governance standards. Duties will include covering for the Data Protection Officer when required.

Main Duties

You will be responsible for:

• Works with the Data Protection Officer in relation to all Information Governance duties and covers these duties in the Data Protection Officer's absence.

• Ensure that that council complies with its obligations under the Data Protection Act 2018 (including GDPR), the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and other relevant legislation and related Orders and Regulations, eg Environmental Information Regulations 2005, re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations, by:

- Developing associated policies, standards and procedures

- Writing guidance notes and decision making matrices for the Internet, Intranet and individual teams as required

- Assisting teams in writing Privacy Notices, Data Protection Impact Statements and Data Sharing Agreements and protocols

- Maintenance of the Information Asset Data base and administering the Flowz system.

• Coordinate and prepare responses for all types of request for information under the relevant legislation.

• Respond to applications made to the council by data subjects in relation to any of their Rights under the Data Protection Act.

Person Specification/Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will have a degree or an equivalent qualification in a subject related to Information Rights e.g law, or relevant demonstrable experience of working in this specialist area.

You will also be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to negotiate on complex technical issues.
