Cleaning Operative

Great Western Park (GWP) is a major housing development which includes three community centres. The Northern Community Centre opened in 2015, the District and the Southern community centres opened in April 2021.

The role of the cleaning operative is to undertake cleaning of the GWP District, Southern and Northern Community Centres. They will be responsible for providing a safe working environment and ensuring that hire spaces are clean and well presented, that a comprehensive cleaning service is provided in compliance service standards, agreed working practices and Health and Safety Regulations.

Hours will be spread across the three centres as required and will include weekends. You may be required to spread your hours across seven days.

Cleaning Operative Responsibilities:

• Ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the areas allocated for cleaning and storage of materials.
• Maintain records of areas cleaned.
• Awareness for COSHH (Control of substances hazardous to Health). Training will be provided.
• Report any incidents or accidents to the Centre Manager.
• Report any maintenance requirements such as light bulb replacements, leaking wash basins, broken toilets etc.
• Ensure compliance with all instructions relating to the use and storage of materials/equipment necessary for the performance of tasks including deliveries. Training will be provided.
• Perform duties as per a cleaning schedule in a professional manner and to the standards expected by the Councils.
• Clean a variety of surfaces using correct methods in line with the council's processes including all hard floor surfaces, and sanitary ware. Training will be provided.
• Emptying and disposing of all waste to the correct waste collection area, including correct disposal techniques for different types of waste.
• Re-stock washrooms, etc. to ensure an adequate supply of consumables are available to users at all times.
• Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and supplies in stock, request ordering when needed.
• Use cleaning equipment effectively and safely. Training will be provided.
• You may be required to provide cover at short notice, should it be required.
• You may be required to spread your working hours across seven days per week.
• You will be required to unlock and disarm security alarms upon arrival to a centre, and to secure and set the alarms upon completion of the cleaning.
• Ensure a presentable appearance in the workplace.

Cleaning Operative Requirements:

• One year's experience of working in a similar role is desirable.
• You must be able to read safety information on cleaning materials to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
• You must be able to follow the instructions on cleaning products to ensure the correct dilution levels.
• Good health and safety awareness with regards to cleaning equipment and materials.
• Good communication skills to ensure customer service satisfaction.
• Willing to contribute ideas that will improve the service.
• Understanding of confidentiality of the client and members of the public.
• Some knowledge of IT needed to complete time sheets etc. Training will be given.
• Ability to work in a team and to act independently to provide solutions.

If you have the following experience or qualifications - it's a bonus:

• Cleaning and customer service experience.
