Do you have a passion for writing for digital formats?
Love the cut and thrust of agency life that means every day, every client, every project is different?
Do you pride yourself in creating quality content that is not just great to read - but drives traffic and makes sales too?
We're looking for a Copywriter to join our award-winning team in central Cambridge.
- GBP24k to GBP32k
- Cambridge (though currently the team is a mix of HQ and homes)
- Writing copy for all manner of digital formats
- Brilliant clients in B2B, education, public sector
- Established, renowned digital marketing agency
What's the role involve?
You'll be writing SEO-focused web copy and blog posts, plus longer pieces for lead generation like downloadable guides, whitepapers and checklists.
It's a very integrated role, so our Copywriter works alongside our creative team and contributes to video projects and social media campaigns where attention-grabbing wordplay is needed to get people clicking.
As content specialists, we lead by example and make sure our own marketing content is consistently creative and insightful, showing the human side of the company and of course, winning us work. You'll be writing for the blog and helping us develop new ideas for content and campaigns.
Who do we work with?
Being based in Cambridge means we have a lot of brilliant clients in education, tech and life sciences, plus there's plenty of property, professional services and public sector projects to get stuck into. We love taking 'sensible' topics and bringing them to life through clever copy that works with the visuals and will be found on Google too.
What's the working week like?
Whenever we take new people on, we always say every day is different. It's true. That's agency life for you!
So in one week you could be writing SEO-focused web copy for a world-class business school??? crafting an email newsletter for a construction brand??? reviewing captions on a video for retailers??? interviewing a pharmaceutical client for a batch of case studies??? preparing a tips sheet for a Sookio workshop??? these are just a few real-life examples from projects we're working on right now.
We're looking for someone who thrives on this mix, and will deliver work to the same high standard whatever the topic or format or challenge.
What are we looking for?
- Versatility. See above.
- Great communication skills. We need people who pick up the phone and chat to clients, not hide behind email. Behind the scenes, we spark off each other creatively and our HQ is always buzzing with ideas
- A love of writing, obviously! You'll need to adhere to different style guides and have reliably rock-solid grammar otherwise our founder can't sleep at night
- Commitment to excellent English in all written communication, from emails and text messages to content published on the web. Applications containing sloppy English will be fast-tracked to the 'no' pile
- A digital focus. We write for humans, not machines, but the more awareness of SEO you have, the better. You'll be thinking about calls to action, writing for an audience reading on mobile, and be interested in the latest trends in digital and the opportunities they bring to reach an audience in different ways.
- Enthusiastic about writing on a wide variety of topics for a very diverse mix of clients, with the organisation skills needed to keep across multiple projects.
Anything else that will impress?
- If you're a dab hand with Squarespace, WordPress, email marketing platforms, SEMRush or any other SEO tools, it'll be good to know
We also use Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, plus Adobe Creative Suite and Canva for anything visual. We're not expecting everyone to be an advanced user in all of these, so don't worry! What's more important is an aptitude to learning.
So, who is Sookio?
We're a brilliant digital marketing agency based in Cambridge, in the lively part of town that is Mill Road. Prior to founding the company in 2008, our founder Sue Keogh worked in radio and web for the BBC, ITV, Aol, Yahoo and Magic FM, and carries through the same commitment to producing sky-high quality content in all the work we produce.
We have three strands: strategy, training and content creation. This last one includes video, design, social media campaign management and of course, copywriting.
Whether it's clients in B2B, education or public sector, we like to form long-term bonds with the people we work with, starting with strategy and being by their side to produce the brilliant content that gets results and helps them grow.
A little more about the essentials
Location: We've been working brilliantly as a team despite the challenges of the pandemic but our goal is to be back in the Cambridge office, even if some people continue with a mix of hybrid working. And with so much of our client base being in and around Cambridge, we really need a Copywriter who will be able to visit clients in person and understand their team dynamic.

- 28 days holiday (under review and expected to rise)
- Pension scheme
- Mental health support line
- Opportunities for personal development through training and mentoring
- Annual training budget
For the higher end we would expect:

Start date: As soon as possible!
