Sue Ross Legal are recruiting for a part time Billing Assistant on behalf of a well respected regional firm based in Sheffield. You will be supporting the Fee Earning departments in providing professional and effective billing of Civil and Family certificated matters with duties including:

* Preparing and posting of interim and final bills- both legal aid bills and private bills

* Building effective relationships with partners and fee earners

* Liaising with internal and external clients

* Assisting fee earners with preparation of costs schedules and queries in relation to billing

* Changing engagement letters where there is a rate change

* Liaising with the Legal Aid Agency with regards any bills returned

* Preparing taxed bills which are returned from court for submission the Legal Aid Agency

* Instructing and liaising with an external costs draftsperson, where required

* Preparing Crown Court bills for all offices and all Graduate Fee bills for advocates

* Keeping up to date with LAA guidelines and procedures to ensure that bills are prepared properly

* Providing information to the Finance Department to ensure the proper accounting of costs and disbursements

* Dealing with queries on bills, both internal and external

* Submitting appeals to the Legal Aid Agency

* Ensuring prompt payment of Howells bills and prompt payment to agents/counsel/advocates

* Liaising with chambers to confirm advocate costs and preparing advocates' bills and to ensure our costs are included in their bills and prompt payment of our costs

* Keeping track of cases waiting to be billed and ensuring they are billed at the earliest opportunity

* Ensuring that ledgers are clear

* File closures and write off of irrecoverable WIP and disbursements

To be considered for this you must have experience of billing client files with excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong commitment to client care, organisation and time management skills, and have a strong working knowledge of Legal Aid.
