The Company and the Role:

Wessex Cancer Trust is a medium-sized charity which offers support to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. The charity operates in Hampshire, IOW, Dorset and Wiltshire and runs 4 drop-in support centres and a range of outreach projects in hospitals and in the community. The charity is driven to evolve and grow in response to the needs of their service users. The challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have proved how well they can achieve this.

Their new CEO joined in July 2020 and as they head towards their 40th birthday this year they are now planning how to use the knowledge and experience they have gained during COVID, to reach more people in more ways.

The Trust relies on voluntary income to fund its work, raising money through fundraising activities and via a trading subsidiary of charity shops. In 2019 it had a combined turnover of GBP1.9m.

They are currently seeking a Centre Manager to lead, manage and develop the services of their Waterside Cancer Support Centre based in Hythe, near Southampton.

This is a part time role of 26 hours per week.

Key Features of the Role:

* Co-ordinate the day to day functions of the Centre.

* Line manage all employees of the Centre, ensuring consistent delivery of services and appropriate staff support is available. This includes the completion of annual appraisals and the reviewing of performance for employees, and regular reviews with volunteers.

* Recruit, coordinate and support volunteer befrienders, counsellors and therapists.

* Encourage fundraising initiatives for the Centre in liaison with the fundraising team, volunteers and connected fundraising groups.

* Co-ordinate provision of support services at the Centre, ensuring appropriate records of sessions are kept in accordance with current GDPR.

* Keep appropriate records for received donations and ensure donors are thanked according to WCT guidelines.

* Manage banking, maintain petty cash and keep accurate financial records, liaising with the finance department as necessary.

* Support and develop awareness and relations in the community and promote the Centre at all times, (i.e., newsletters and local media).

Knowledge and Skills Required:

* Be a confident line manager with experience of leading and inspiring a team to success.

* Experience of working in a health and social care or similar setting.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team of employees and volunteers.

* Resilient and keenness to work flexibly in an emotionally demanding environment.

* Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple priorities at the same time.

* Change management experience or able to demonstrate appropriate skills and understanding.

* Experience line managing a team of mostly volunteers

* Ability to confidently use Microsoft 365, zoom and bespoke case management systems.

* Experience ideally of working in the Charity sector.

* Experience ideally of working with grant funding/restricted income.

With the impact of Covid, this year will be crucial for Wessex Cancer Trust. This is an important role within the charity, managing one of their centres.

Salary is GBP22,035 per annum pro rata together with contributory pension scheme, 25 days holiday, free parking, cycle to work scheme, employee counselling helpline, mental health first aiders and a personal development programme.

The position is full time 26hours per week.
