AAK Hull is located in the heart of an area enjoying significant redevelopment and investment.

The Port of Hull is being established as a world-class centre for renewable energy and manufacturing, and at AAK we feel proud to be part of this important industrial renaissance for Yorkshire and the UK.

At our recently upgraded site at King George Dock we operate the UK's largest refinery for edible oils and fats. We supply businesses in the sectors of food manufacturing, baking, Foodservice and retail, and we work closely with customers to co-develop bespoke products.

About the role

AAK are seeking to appoint an Area Shift Leader, to join Factory Operations reporting directly to the Production Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all the daily operations in the department and will take full ownership for safety, performance, quality, delivery, cost and morale, driving continuous improvement through managing and engaging your shift team.

This is a hands-on role which requires flexibility in order to not only provide cover in all production areas but to also provide cross shift teamwork with other Shift Leaders.

Responsibilities:

Safe operation of all equipment, ensuring operators in your charge are familiar with safety procedures and carry out their work in a safe manner.
Set up, maintenance and operation of all department production lines to the correct standards, ensuring a balance between the need to address immediate problems and daily tasks with the ability to plan future improvements.
Creation of and adherence to SOP's in all departmental operations, including the coaching of operatives in technical duties.
Completion of actions derived from the identification of all department production line losses, ensuring the utilisation of Root Cause Analysis / 60-minute downtime sheet to create a "100 Year Fix" to losses and identify potential trends.
Oversee all production lines and ensure production targets are consistently met.
Completion of maintenance duties and changeovers of all departmental processes, including troubleshooting to find ways to continually improve the performance of equipment.
Identify, set and develop AM to high standards.
Ensure quality of product by participating in HACCP studies and ensuring CCP'S are controlled correctly.
Ensure sufficient resources are available for correct labour deployment as agreed, ensuring man hours are managed against key KPI's.
Effectively lead, manage, coach and develop a team of operatives - leading people management activities including training, time and attendance, absence management, investigation, grievance and disciplinary.
About you:

Experience of working within a similar role within the food industry
Good working knowledge of food safety, quality and H&S standards.
Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques (e.g. Lean, 6S etc.).
IOSH training is desirable.
Good technical understanding of process and plant.
Candidates should have a 'can do' attitude, be passionate and demanding and lead by example.
Good problem-solving skills with a flexible and reliable approach to work - striving to identify root cause and drive continuous improvement.
Builds strong networks, effective teams and develops talent through strong leadership.
Ability to demonstrate authentic leadership, strong written and verbal communication, self-awareness and instil trust.
Able to drive vision and purpose, results and performance, and manage execution, ensuring accountability.
