We are currently working with a fantastic organisation in recruiting for a Purchasing Manager for major projects within the Purchasing and Projects team. This role is offered on a permanent basis and the role is currently vacant. The main focus of this position is to ensure the smooth running and timely purchasing of goods, services and materials and will manage a small team across 2 offices.
Key duties and responsibilities:
* This role is responsible for procuring for the Projects - particularly large/small, fleet and FM works - of strategic importance across the company, ranging in value from several thousands to couple of millions of pounds and will focus around the principles of Simplify, Engage, Deliver Value.
* You will need a strong understanding of the FM, Estates and Construction Categories. Liaising between a diverse set of stakeholders, work with a view to meeting niche requirements whilst ensuring value-for-money, compliance and mitigating risk to the company. This role will aim to identify and understand the needs of the project, offer advice on suppliers, act as key point of expertise during the Budgets, tender or dispensation-from-competition process, and see purchases through to completion.
* Negotiate prices with suppliers, tracking all price changes and updates in advance, uploading new prices onto the Opera systems, and getting sign off on all price increases from the Estimating Manager/Project Director.
* Manage negotiated margin, product mix, trading account revenues and rebates to hit forecast M% and rebate targets/forecasts
* Identify and develop new supplier opportunities in order to improve project profitability via lowering the cost of material and services
* Support the development of sourcing strategies of spend across functional and organisation boundaries ensuring optimum value for money for the company
* Responsible for the successful procurement for the projects, reporting to the Project Director (disciplinary) and Central Procurement Manager (functional)
* Responsible for procuring goods and services, and plant and equipment (hired and owned).
* Identifying potential Suppliers and liaise with both new and existing suppliers to build and maintain good working relationships with them.
* Conducting research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality.
* Ensuring goods and services are received within the time frame set by the project managers and as per the price/quantity agreed in line with the Purchase Order. Gaining authorisation from the PM/Director for any variation.
* Any plant or equipment on hire must be off hired within the time agreed with the estimating and project managers to avoid unnecessary costs.
* Liaise with site management on material and plant requirements.
* Raise Purchase Orders and Work Order within the given time frame and update prices on the database.
* Ensure that Project requirements are met and high quality, value for money contracts are negotiated to deliver efficiencies and saving targets.
* Ensure contractual compliance and proactively manage supplier and sub-contractors performance across the project delivery as per the Contracts / Agreements.
* Act as first point of contact for queries within the projects and provide general advice and support.
* Support the management of suppliers contracts / Agreements and service level agreements to ensure reduced risk to the business.
* Provide support and timely escalation to the Site Managers and/or Project Manager
* Ensure collaborative working across the procurement team.
* Work collaboratively within the procurement team, to ensure delivery of compliant procurement.
In order to be considered for this position, you will have:
Experience of working in a construction and/or EV environment
Previous procurement experience (5 years +)
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Computer literate; word, excel and any database experience
Customer service experience
Negotiation skills
Works well under pressure, and able to deal effectively with change and challenges
Ideally supervisor / Line Management experience
Any procurement qualifications e.g CIPS
Any on-site Construction, Fleet and EV experience
