JOB PURPOSE:
To provide a professional insurance claims handling service to UK Power Networks. To handle complex claims on behalf of UK Power Networks and its external insurers. To provide accurate and timely advice to all parties on claims and issues arising from UK Power Networks' relationships with customers/suppliers and members of the public.
DIMENSIONS:
No staff responsibilities
Resolve both liability disputes and quantum negotiations up to a limit of authority of GBP20k.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Personally undertake the pro-active investigation and conduct of claims so as to bring about a successful resolution of such claims;
* Have the required level of technical knowledge and experience to resolve both liability disputes and quantum negotiations largely unsupported, up to a limit of authority of GBP20k;
* Advise UK Power Networks companies in relation to claims/litigation arising from its various activities; and
* Liaise with insurers, external advisors and experts as necessary.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Insurance Claims Team reports to the Insurance Manager and is part of UK Power Networks' Legal and Insurance Department.
The Claims Handler's duties includes:
* Personally undertake the pro-active investigation and conduct of claims so as to bring about a successful resolution of such claims;
* Have the required level of technical knowledge and experience to resolve both liability disputes and quantum negotiations largely unsupported, up to a limit of authority of GBP20k and potentially above;
* Advise UK Power Networks companies in relation to claims/litigation arising from its various activities;
* Liaise with insurers, external advisors and experts as necessary;
* Deal with claims professionally and in line with UK Power Networks and CPR protocols whilst protecting the corporate image of the organisation and achieving a satisfactory result for the genuine claimant at an acceptable cost to UK Power Networks;
* Liaise with loss adjusters and other external claims investigators as well as external solicitors and counsel;
* Ensure sufficient provisions/reserves are maintained for all claims by reviewing the potential cost of the claim whenever further material information is obtained;
* Respond promptly and pro-actively to incoming telephone calls and correspondence;
* To be compliant with all regulatory requirements, including GDPR;
* File Acknowledgments of Service on time;
* Contribute to the drafting of Defences and Applications for sign off by the Principal Solicitor;
* Ensure all court directions are complied with;
* Contribute to the drafting and serving of witness statements compliant with the Civil Procedure Rules; and
* Take all actions to avoid any risk of adverse legal costs being awarded against UK Power Networks.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate will ideally have attained a qualification with the Chartered Insurance Institute or the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters or be studying towards one.
The post holder should be able to work under their own initiative to manage and prioritise their own caseload and work within a small team environment to assist in the delivery of the team objectives. They should also maintain a right first time philosophy with excellent attention to detail to work in a paperless environment, maintaining accurate electronic records of all telephone conversations and correspondence.
The post holder is an insurance claims professional able to demonstrate wide experience in handling public liability claims.
The post holder would ideally have customer relations/liaison experience and be able to provide a good customer service experience.
A proactive, logical and pragmatic approach is needed to achieve commercially acceptable solutions to a wide variety of claims. The post holder must be able to communicate confidently and effectively in print and orally. The post holder must be able to work accurately to tight timescales and to manage customer and company priorities and demands.
The post holder must be a team player able to manage his/her own workload, as well as assisting the Insurance and Claims Manager in the technical development of lesser experienced members of the team.
