Systems Engineer, Diagnostic Development - Automotive, West Midlands, GBP45,000- GBP50,000, 6 m FTC employment
Diagnostic Design Engineer - The successful applicant will develop and support activities within the Vehicle Engineering department, with an emphasis on vehicle diagnostic strategies and requirements.
The diagnostic design engineer will be able to develop and report deliverables within a customer-focused project team.
The role will involve interaction with various cross-functional engineering teams and other business areas such as manufacturing, service, and over the air (OTA).
In addition, a successful applicant will be responsible to lead technical alignments with external vendors ensuring adequate solutions are adopted for on-board and off-board vehicle diagnostic systems.
Systems Engineer, Diagnostic Development - Automotive Duties:
Elicitation of requirements from customer technical interfaces.
Author vehicle diagnostic system requirements and set success criteria/scope for delivery.
Lead the design of the software update processes on vehicle electrical systems
Design vehicle ECUs diagnostic specifications and diagnostic templates as applicable
Promote best engineering practices to meet diagnostic KPIs as applicable to the project.
Review ECU diagnostic specifications and diagnostic processes with internal and external actors
Communicate, monitor, and control tasks and vehicle system requirements within project engineering teams.
Collaborate with the engineering and project management teams aligning on project milestones for time/quality gates, tracking delivery and addressing potential deliverables slippage.
Support System Integration team with test item definition and potential requirements clarification
Support project teams with the development of OEM processes related to vehicle diagnostic development and delivery
Systems Engineer, Diagnostic Development Requirements:
Good technical knowledge of Electric Vehicle electrical systems and their operation
Broad knowledge diagnostic development and delivery processes, tools, and methods, and cross-functional dependencies
Good knowledge of UDS (ISO 14229) and DoIP (ISO 13400) protocols
Good knowledge of vehicle ECUs software update processes in alignment with the UDS standard
Good knowledge of ECU diagnostic specification modeling (e.g. using Vector CANdela Studio) and diagnostic data exchange processes and tools
Broad knowledge of vehicle communication networks architectures and communication protocols (e.g. CAN, LIN)
Experience in vehicle system design for service and manufacturing.
Experience in software release and configuration processes
Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills - with an ability to apply innovative means to steer issue resolution
