Applications Scientist/ Technologist
LOCATION - STIRLING
DURATION - 3-months (+)
Hourly Rate - GBPCompetitive DoE
Hours of work - Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours
ESS's Client, ESS's Client, is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of Gas Analysis products including Gas Chromatographs, Process Gas Analyzers, and Laser Analyzers. With operations in the US and Europe, they are revolutionizing the speed and accuracy with which gases can be analyzed across a wide range of market segments, serving diverse applications in process industries such as Natural Gas, Chemical, Refining, and Power, and hybrid industries such as Food & Beverage, Aerosol, and Life Science.
They now need to hire an Applications Scientist / Technologist to further support development of state-of-the-art gas analysers in their Advanced Research Lab.
As part of this role, you will contribute to the development of next generation products by creating and validating technology platforms from first principals through to proof concept prototypes. You will be part of a team that includes spectroscopy, algorithm, laser physics, user experience and software experts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initial system training
* QCL basics
* Detection technique
* Develop and understand requirements of vast range of industries from Aerosol/Pharmaceutical to Food & Beverage
Support in development of new PLC based control system, including:
* Definition of test protocols
* Validation testing
* Ongoing detailed feedback on system design
* Suggestion of design improvements where applicable
* Work closely with external suppliers to ensure on time delivery
Assistance in technical sales support for new applications, including:
* Spectroscopic assessment of new gases against sensor capabilities
* Engage with sales and marketing to understand new application requirements and develop test plans to assess system capabilities
Assessment of current testing methodology across detection product range
* Where applicable suggest and validate improvements
Assessment of new sampling head designs for Food and Beverage Industry, including
* Prototyping and assessment of new design proposals
* Developing test plans for new designs both in factory and to support on site assessment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Relevant degree in Chemistry / Physics / Engineering discipline (preferably PhD/Masters)
* More than two years' experience in scientific / manufacturing role preferable
* Knowledge of spectroscopy techniques and/or laser-based systems
* Strong technical problem-solving ability and initiative
* Self-directed and motivated in a team environment
* Quick to learn and adapt to new situations and environments
* Strong data analysis skills
