Our Public Sector client, responsible for the running of a historic tourist attraction, has an immediate requirement for a Castle Steward to join their team on an immediate basis. This is a temporary requirement, which will be reviewed on a monthly basis, but could run until the end of September 2021. You will work as part of the guiding team responsible for showing visitors around the attraction and passing on local knowledge of the area and attraction.
Hours of work will be Wednesday-Saturday 09:00-17:00 although flexibility is required.
This position offers an immediate start commencing from 31st July.
Due to the location of this role, having your own transport is desirable. Applicants will also be required to hold a valid Basic Disclosure issued within the last 12 months or be willing to apply for one.
Main Duties Include:
Work as part of a team to ensure that the monument is properly presented to meet all our opening time commitments, functions and events, group bookings and specialist interest visits, as required.
Pro-active interaction with visitors to the site, assessing their individual needs and answering enquiries.
Providing guided historical conversational talks.
Queue management for various locations within the castle, shop and toilets.
Overseeing the arrival and departure of our commercially operated boats.
Identifying visitor needs and promoting and selling the appropriate ticket (Friends Membership, Explorer Pass).
Increasing sales of the souvenir guide and retail merchandise by promoting and selling during your conversations with visitors.
Report any maintenance issues requiring attention to the relevant Duty Manager.
Carry out routine tasks as required by the Duty Manager, CVSM or specified in the cleaning/maintenance schedule for the monument, visitor centre and toilets
Ensure that the health and safety of staff, visitors and contractors is paramount at all times.
Checking for and reporting defects, conducting safe housekeeping, ensuring adequate supplies in First Aid Box, completion of Accident Book/Accident Report Form.
Skills/Experience Required:
Previous experience working in tourism/customer service
Excellent customer service skills
Strong communication skills
Excellent planning and organisational skills
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Hold a Basic Disclosure issued within last 12 months
