Leonardo are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to technically lead development projects in high performance infrared focal plane array detectors.
The role covers the full product life cycle, from early customer engagement and concept development, through to prototype verification and handing over a fully qualified product to manufacturing and includes a responsibility of product level design authority.
What you will do:
In the role you will be responsible for the integrity and suitability of the design of infrared detector products and for leading the lifecycle management of the product, including design reviews, verification, and qualification activities. Providing leadership to a technical team with a broad range of physics, mechanical and electronics skills is also an integral part of the role.
What we are looking for:
A degree in Physics (preferable) or relevant Engineering discipline (Electronics, Systems etc) is required for this role and an MSc or PhD is advantageous.
Experience or an interest in electro-optics or semiconductor devices is desirable.
Technical leadership, communications, problem solving, project planning, and technical writing skills are all essential skills required for this role.
A high degree of numeracy is also required, together with a track record of technical leadership in product development and an ability to negotiate, build consensus and influence effectively.
A person who is a strong communicator, clear thinking and an organised problem solver would be well suited to this role.
Industrial experience in a related technical field or in systems engineering is desirable.
Must be able to draw clear conclusions from complex numerical data and be able to apply a range of physical principles (electrical, thermal, mechanical, optical) to a wide range of technological problems.
To be able to coordinate efforts in, and over time, to lead the team's understanding in some of the following areas: silicon IC processes and design procedures, semiconductor manufacturing and design, infrared detectors and their applications, qualification procedures for military applications, cryogenic techniques
