Joining our Digital Team, our Front End Developer will be working on Vitality's online Design System to support multiple teams and stakeholders across Vitality's digital portfolio.
Responsibilities as our Front End Developer will include:
- Maintaining the Vitality Design System and developing new, accessible and user-friendly web components and features
- Writing tested, idiomatic, and documented JavaScript, HTML and Sass
- Optimising Vitality's Front-End Applications to support maximum speed and scalability
- Building reusable JavaScript code and libraries for use across all development teams
- Recommending, designing and building the infrastructure for serving Front End apps and assets
- Architecting and automating the build process for production, using task runners and/or scripts
- Contributing to Agile Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
What we are looking for in our ideal Front End Developer:
Development skills and standards
- Excellent understanding and experience of core HTML, CSS, Sass, and JavaScript principles
- Excellent ability to peer review code via team pull requests and one-to-one communication
- Knowledge and experience of using Git (distributed revision control tool)
- The ability to support other team members and to ensure a high standard of code
- Fundamental knowledge of software delivery tools, Package Management and Module bundlers/task runners
Key project responsibilities
- Excellent ability to build key components, pages, and experiences to support the delivery of Vitality's core projects and initiatives
- Excellent understanding of Agile Kanban and Scrum methodologies to enable effective delivery via project planning tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Trello
- The ability to work closely with Product Owners, Back End Developers, and Content Editors to ensure they receive relevant support and adhere to core web design and development principles
Web Design and Development best practice and governance
- Excellent understanding and ability to implement Design and Front End best practices and principles
- Excellent ability to clearly document web component and usage guidance within Vitality's Design System
Accessibility standards
- Excellent knowledge of the accessibility factors associated with web design and development
- Excellent ability to identify and fix key accessibility issues
- Excellent desire to improve accessibility knowledge further via online learning
