About the role

I am a young lady with a great sense of humour, a bubbly personality, and many skills and strengths. I enjoy shopping, playing board games, arts and crafts and watching a wide variety of films and listening to a wide range of music.

I would like support to re-establish and increase my attendance at meaningful activities outside the home.

Saturdays are important to me as my niece and nephew visit and I can struggle to be around them for the whole day, so having a support worker with me who can take me out to have some fun is especially important on Saturdays.

I have a diagnosis of autism, Smith-Magennis syndrome and an associated sleep disorder which means I wake frequently throughout the night so this can impact on my engagement levels during the day.

Smith-Magennis is a genetically determined condition, associated with a learning disability, causing developmental delay and a pattern of distinctive behaviour, so this and my autism means I have difficulties with communication, can have unpredictable behaviours and experience a lot of anxiety. It also means my attention span can be limited in any activity.

I need a support worker who has a good understanding of autism and behaviours that challenge, further specific training will be given.

They must be a driver and willing to take me out in their car, mileage is paid for this.

I need someone who can mirror my sense of humour, be bubbly, chatty and enjoy being with me. I can struggle to get engaged and find transitions difficult so the ability to come in happy and cheerful is vital. I can't process others emotions very well so need that positive vibe throughout.

It is also important that I have a support worker who is consistent and reliable as I like to do certain activities with certain people and now lockdown is easing, I would like to start trying to get out and about again.
