Junior QC Lab Technician (Chemistry)
Job Description
Alton Based: QC Laboratory
Hours: 5.45am to 2.00pm Mon to Fri
Overview:
Reporting to the QC Laboratory Supervisor, the purpose of this post is to assist in the quality control testing function for a variety of raw materials, bulk and finished products within the business. This post is laboratory based and requires strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Health and Safety Regulations. Record keeping is required into laboratory books, master documentation and onto computer databases; accuracy and attention to detail are, therefore, paramount at all times. The post holder will have degree or equivalent ideally in Chemistry or a Chemistry based subject.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Following training, the key duties of the post are as follows;
• Conduct physical testing and basic chemical quality testing of non-pharma bulk and packed products in compliance with appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Laboratory Methods • Download daily the data from the fridge and incubator temperature loggers and review for anomalies. Report any anomalies found to the QC Laboratory Supervisor • Undertake regular routine calibration of laboratory equipment and instruments as specified in agreed schedules • Prepare, clean and maintain laboratory equipment, glassware and instruments used in testing • Assist in the control and maintenance of all laboratory raw material, bulk and reference standards in accordance with the relevant SOP or customer\regulatory requirement • Maintain the chemical inventory • Send samples to external companies as required. • Ensure all samples tested are controlled and retained in accordance with SOPs • Operate requisite laboratory equipment and instruments and record data • Report any equipment failures to the QC Laboratory Supervisor for resolution • Identify quality issues to the QC Laboratory Supervisor for resolution • Ensure that safe working practices are followed at all times, and that walkways are kept clear of obstruction • Maintain high standards of GLP and GMP at all times in the laboratory and other accountable areas • Carry out any other reasonable duties at the request of the QC Laboratory Supervisor or Quality Manager
Skills/Experience required:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally Chemistry or a Chemistry based subject - essential • Good understanding of basic chemistry techniques gained through practical experience - desired • Experience of working within a GLP and GMP environment - desired • Good hand-eye co-ordination and manual dexterity • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills • Flexibility - ability to react and respond positively to changes in priority and workload • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions • Moderate level of literacy and numeracy required • Ability to use computerised information systems to input, retrieve and update all relevant data • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint - moderate understanding is essential
