They are a biotech company based in the UK, with an ongoing commitment to improving the outcomes of cancer patients by accelerating drug discovery and the development of new cancer therapies. Our main activities include offering personalised clinical diagnostic services to cancer patients, offering contract research services, and developing a world-leading well-characterised Biobank.

Must Haves

* A PhD in cell/molecular biology at least 2 years' post-doctoral experience or a BSc/MSc degree with additional 4-5 years' relevant experience in cell/molecular biology

* Previous involvement in and around drug development would be advantageous

* Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team

* A proven track record in identifying key issues and implementing the right solution for the benefit of the company/team

Job Description

As a Senior Research Scientist, you will design, develop, and conduct in vitro cell-based experiments for client projects, and/or develop patient-derived cell models from tumour biopsies and test their drug sensitivity in vitro. You will be required to perform and support molecular biology assays in the lab including DNA/RNA extraction and analyses. You will propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects. This role will be performed under minimal supervision in a lab-based environment in accordance with health and safety requirements and to company standards. You will use your knowledge and experience to direct, guide and structure the laboratory activities of junior scientists. You will be expected to line manage a number of technical staff. The primary location for this role will be in the Northwest.

• To perform data analysis, contribute to results interpretation and play a significant role in the planning of further experiments; to be able to present data in a format suitable for inclusion in sponsor/client reports, presentations, or company publications/posters.

• To be responsible for and ensure that the results of their experiments are recorded accurately, in a timely fashion to the required standard.

• To effectively communicate results to other members of the team, or other functions as required.

• To be an effective team member possessing a range of practical skills and demonstrating flexibility at all times.

• To identify problems associated with their experiments and discuss and agree solutions with line manager and other team members.

• To take responsibility for reducing hazards and for the health and safety of others and be responsible for conducting risk assessments as and when required.

• To understand, if appropriate, the intellectual property strategy for the project and its significance in securing our position.

Education and experience

Skills
Technical

The right applicant will be competent in more than one of the following technical/job-specific skills:

• Cell culture techniques - experience in primary mammalian cell culture desirable

• Performing cell-based assays accurately and reproducibly

• Immunofluorescent assays and image capture

• Computer literate and proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation packages

• Biochemical and/or molecular biology methods - DNA/RNA/Protein extraction
