Graduate Application & Network Performance Monitoring Engineer

Introduction
At Net Consulting we specialise in Application and Network Performance Monitoring (APM), troubleshooting and analysis. We are looking for Graduates with a Computer Science or IT-related degree and a keen interest in networks who want to work closely with our team, customers & technology to make a difference.
Working primarily at a client site in Corsham, Wiltshire, you'll be part of our dynamic team delivering APM solutions, helping to diagnose and troubleshoot issues across the enterprise infrastructure. You will leverage a range of toolsets to identify, analyse, test and provide solutions to performance issues, as well as participating in live incident and problem investigations.
The role provides an opportunity to gain exposure to a diverse group of stakeholders across the enterprise, conduct deep-dive network packet analysis, design, support and commission new monitoring solutions whilst learning new skills in the field of APM.

For this role it is essential that you can obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance and possibly UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance level in the future.
Responsibilities
• Specialise in Application/Network Performance Monitoring tools
• Gather requirements, design and configure Application/Network Monitoring solutions
• Identify solutions to address visibility and performance challenges within our clients' application and network infrastructure
• Undertake investigative work to diagnose application and network performance issues using the recommended toolsets
• Collaborate with colleagues in the delivery of projects and tasks to meet deadlines and client expectations
• Produce low level technical documentation and reports in support of projects and performance recommendations
• Prepare, deploy and commission relevant equipment and tools for performance analysis, including laptops and servers with appropriate software
• Attend technical pre-sales meetings where you will be required to assist in designing, documenting and presenting solutions to clients
• Prepare and deliver demonstrations of toolsets to clients
• Investigate new software and APM technologies in a lab environment
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IT and technology changes
Skills & Expertise
• Graduate in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related subject
• Ability to obtain UK Security Check (SC) Clearance is essential
• Understanding of TCP/IP and network ports/protocols usage is essential
• Appreciation of Enterprise class networking, e.g. Cisco, Juniper, F5 or similar technologies
• Good knowledge of networked Application-to-Application communication
• Basic knowledge or awareness of the following APM tools is desirable:
* Riverbed SteelCentral AppResponse, Riverbed SteelCentral Portal
* Network packet based APM tools, e.g. Wireshark, Observer, Sniffer, Fluke
* End User Experience Monitoring, e.g. Aternity, Nexthink
• Awareness of Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) tools is desirable, e.g. Riverbed SteelCentral NetIM, SolarWinds Orion, HP OpenView, CA Spectrum, Nagios or similar
• The ability to work flexibly in a high-pressure environment, managing changing priorities and workloads is essential
• To be successful in this role you must exercise leadership qualities and take responsibility for actions and decision making
• You must be equally adept to working independently and as a member of a team, have an exceptional work ethic to achieve results and customer satisfaction
• There may be a requirement for travel to other locations within the UK to work on client sites, so a full UK Driving Licence is required
