Harrow Council- Housing Advice and Assessment OfficerJob role: Housing Advice and Assessment OfficerBased: Initially working from home and then based at Harrow CouncilReporting To: Housing Line ManagerSalary: GBP17.10 per hour (ongoing temporary assignment)OverviewPertemps Recruitment Partnership have a fantastic opportunity for a Housing Advice and Assessment Officer to join Harrow Council on a temporary ongoing basis.The Housing Needs Service has a tradition of continuously developing and implementing innovative spend-to-save solutions to prevent homelessness and offer alternative housing options. The service aims to minimise and reduce the costs to the Council of meeting housing needs in the borough, and to prevent the need for families to undergo the upheaval of homelessness.Harrow takes a proactive "Enhanced Housing Options" approach to interviewing customers, to assist people with housing issues to find the best solution for them. Our aim is to increase customer satisfaction while identifying more accurately the people who need additional help to resolve their housing difficulties. The team provides advice and practical assistance in promoting a range of solutions aimed at preventing homelessness and enabling people living in unsatisfactory housing conditions to improve their circumstances and, where necessary, relocate.The Main Purpose of the Job:The post holder will be required to give advice and assistance to housing applicants, in order to prevent and relieve homelessness, in line with legislation, case law, council policy objectives and priorities. They will assess applications from homeless households and those threatened with homelessness in line with Part VII Housing Act 1996.As a Housing Advice and Assessment Officer, you will be required to work 36 hours a week. Come and join the team and help Harrow residents resolve their Housing difficulties.About you:The successful Housing Advice and Assessment Office applicant will have:- Degree level education or equivalent, or the relevant work experience- Knowledge of 5 tests of Homelessness- Knowledge and understanding of Homelessness Legislation including an awareness of the New Homelessness Reduction Act 2017- Knowledge of the rights of tenants in the private rented sector and their obligations- Knowledge of welfare benefits related to housing- Experience of dealing with people face to face in stressful situations- Experience of giving advice- The ability to demonstrate sensitivity to people's individual needs, to act appropriately in dealing with the needs of people from minority groups and to identify the actions that can be taken to overcome barriers faced by different sections of Harrow's diverse community- Flexibility regarding working hours in order to ensure good customer service which, occasionally, is outside 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.For more information, please refer to the role profile/selection criteria.About usFor almost 60 years, Pertemps Recruitment Partnership have been the market leader in providing permanent and temporary staffing solutions and we are one of the most established players within the recruitment industry.
