We are looking for regional editors with digital expertise to be part of the collaborative team behind the UK's latest national news title, nationalworld .com, and its supporting titles.
We are growing quickly online so we are investing to make sure we are writing more of the stories we know our readers love to read, while also setting the agenda for towns and cities across the UK.
Based in one of the UK's big cities and working remotely, you will use your senior reporter or editor experience and qualification(s) in journalism to ensure we are delivering high-quality stories for our new and fast-growing national title, NationalWorld .com, and brands across our network.
You will also have the hunger to learn, develop and embrace change as our business develops.
Already living in a world of social media, you will have a grasp of SEO and a natural understanding of what makes great digital content.
Scope and purpose of the role
To ensure nationalworld .com and associated digital platforms are updated with engaging news, features, video and analysis
To lead a team of journalists targeted at key topics and themes
To ensure we achieve our audience targets while maintaining our high ethical and legal standards
To work with teams across JPIMedia, sharing ideas and stories
To understand and take action from audience data and analytics
Key duties and responsibilities
Day-to-day management of a team of journalists
Ensure the production and publishing of quality news and lifestyle content on the websites.
Ensure round-the-clock new coverage, with a focus on developing passionate, local audiences.
Drive the news content agenda, making our digital platforms leaders in breaking news, information, data, interaction and fun to do with the places we cover
Ensure a daily diet of informative content is produced to meet the requirements of the newsroom's daily content schedule
Develop relationships with readers and other organisations so that our brands are turn-to destinations for content and engagement
Ensure audience data drives content decisions and that audience targets are met
Continually suggest innovative content ideas that engage, interest and inform readers
Develop personal brand to become a trusted expert and public face
Have strong and active social media presence
Produce agenda-setting exclusives, opinion and commentary
Assist in general uploading, digital content creation, optimisation and website management in line with established workflows
Lead digital conferences and planning meetings
Undertake company/editorial projects and any other duties from time to time as reasonably requested by management
Achieve pageview targets, ensure team author goals are achieved
Skills/experience
* Journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience)
* Demonstrable experience of leading a team of journalists or being a senior reporter in a newsroom
* First-class organisational skills
* An excellent understanding of the news agenda and a strong interest in current affairs
* Experience of and ability to use analytics to identify digital audience and content trends and commission content accordingly
* Adaptable and flexible
* Creativity and flair
* Excellent attention to detail
* Self-motivated, highly organised and able to take instruction as well as manage
own workload efficiently
* Experience writing high-quality content for digital platforms
* Experience of providing analysis and commentary on other media outlets
* Strong digital skills and excellent communicator on social media
* Awareness and understanding of how people use the internet to search for information
* Ability to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressure
* Flexible approach to shifts
* Up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code
* Full driving licence
