We are looking to hire a skilled and experienced CNC Grinder / Machinist, who will work as part of our R&D Prototype team. Our skilled R&D colleagues produce low volume, high precision, prototype components to support our micro turbine development and production work.
Whilst this role is principally that of a Grinder, a significant part of the role will entail operating other machinery including Lathes and Mills with some additional bench work. The role would best suit someone that enjoys variety in their role and has the skills to support this.
We utilise full CNC turning / grinding and 5 axis milling, EDM wire and spark eroding, manual milling and turning, to achieve comprehensive inhouse capabilities.
Key Responsibilities;
- Operate and program cylindrical and surface grinders
- Operate XYZ mill and Colchester lathe as required
- Working with our Engineering teams across the Design and Production spectrum, reviewing prototype component designs for various stages of production
- Producing low volume small batch prototype components and fixtures in our state-of-the-art machine shop on CNC and manual machine tools
- Supporting pre-production phase with some volume work in the short term
- Working closely with our Quality department to ensure the highest standards at all times
- Monitoring and maintaining tooling stock
- Checking own work and that of others as required

Essential Skills
Qualifications & Experience;
- Must have a formally recognised engineering apprenticeship qualification / hold an appropriate NVQ or City and Guilds qualification
- Ability to produce high quality work first time
- Experience in a low volume, high precision machining environment is essential
- Can do attitude alongside the ability to work under tight time pressures using your own initiative
- Ability to operate a wider range of machinery would be a significant advantage
