What you'll be doing

Reporting into the Head of Wash Operations, you will be responsible for all operations at our grading site in Landscove which is a few miles away from our Buckfastleigh site. You will lead the site team of up to 20 co-owners at peak and be accountable for the production outputs, health and safety and management of the site, ensuring your leadership team have the skills, ability, and resources to meet the daily, weekly and yearly production challenges.

The site will be grading more than 400t of root veg a week at peak including potatoes, onions, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, swede and celeriac. You will also manage a bagging and crating operation on the site along with all the offsite storage, rotation and usage.

You will be responsible for your own CAPEX and annual labour, RM and wastage budgets along with overhead costs of the site.

Operations Manager responsibilities:

- Day-to-day responsibility for all production activities and managing the production plan with your team leaders and production planning manager
- Lead on health & safety compliance and improvement actions across your area and site
- Develop and coach your team, fostering an environment of teamwork
- Develop the operational plan and machinery requirement to move sites within the next three years
- Lead on improvement of process and technology within your area and support this within the wider business
- Plan production across different production lines to ensure fulfilment to your internal customers OTIF
- Management, harvest loading and rotation of on and off-site long-term storage this will include the monthly costs of these locations

Skills & experience:

- Experience of successfully leading and managing a team with a track record of developing individuals' career and personal growth
- Ideally veg or food background or as a minimum an FMCG background
- Demonstrable experience of leading on continuous improvement programmes
- Ideally P&L experience/budgetary experience
- Strong problem-solving skills; able to adapt to an ever-changing environment
- Excellent communication/engagement skills at all levels of the business

It is worth noting that through the busy months you may need to work either an AM or PM shift this would normally be through the November - February period.
