This role is a long-term position, with the intention of growing the grid team over the coming five years, to a point where the appointee is intended to move to being the new head of the team.

The appointee will work with the Head of Grid Services, a new Energy Storage Technical Assistant, and one of the directors of my client.

The role will also involve providing consultancy support to our clients, and providing grid-based consultancy expertise to our team working on renewable

Role responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Grid Services on the development of spade ready battery sites
  • Understanding the process of constructing our own multi-MW scale battery
  • Gathering intelligence on new battery technical, policy and financial developments
  • Budget enquiry applications for low carbon and storage technologies
  • Formal grid connections applications for low carbon and storage technologies
  • Identification of sites where low carbon technologies and energy storage systems could possibly connect for in-house or client projects
  • Negotiating the reduction of contestable and non-contestable costs of connections
  • Electrical design of electrical connections
  • Organising various subcontractors to undertake contestable work (ICP's etc)
  • Working with DNOs and National Grid
  • Support R&D projects of various nature
  • Able to work as a team member and also alone when required
  • Undertaking consultancy on grid infrastructure for energy storage and renewable energy systems

Essential qualifications, experience and skills

  • Experience working within a DNO, IDNO or ICP
  • Understanding and genuine interest in renewable energy
  • High level of experience of the UK grid & grid connections
  • Methodical with good attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of technical report writing
  • Experience of managing projects to time, quality & cost
  • Experience of business development and meeting targets
  • Good written and verbal presentation skills
  • Reviewing schematic drawings and verifying on-site equipment
  • Understanding of energy systems
  • High level of computer literacy, including MS Office etc
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to travel within the UK

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Significant contribution to the development of spade ready battery sites through to the sale
  • Willingness to learn & a flexible outlook

Notes

  • Connections will range from 11kV to 400kV in most cases
