HMYOI Werrington are looking to fill long-term temporary contract jobs for Shift OSGs.

Based on a Shift Pattern of 39 hours per week. Early, Late, main details, weekend Shifts involved. GBP11.93 per hour inclusive of holiday (weekend overtime & night overtime rates apply).

Overview of the position:

As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit Operational Support Grades (OSGs) for prisons across the Midlands. This is a long-term temporary contract, starting rate of GBP11.93 per hour inclusive of holiday pay with a basic rate of GBP10.42.

The OSG role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally.

Purpose of the OSG role:

As part of the security team you will be responsible for assisting in the safety and security of the establishment where your duties will include escorting visitors, building contractors, gate duties within the prison and outside areas. You will ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff and prisoners within a Prison establishment, while persons from outside of NOMS are on site. You will also ensure that no unauthorised persons or items enter the establishment.

Radio handling
Supervision of visitors
Stores duties
Patrolling Perimeter and grounds
Routine administrative work
Escorting contractors & vehicles
Night patrol duties
Contractor Tool checks
Switchboard duties
Searching Buildings
Canteen and kit exchange duties
Searching prisoners property
Rub down searching of prisoners
Health & Safety Procedures
Radio operation
Supervising small selected prisoner work parties
Emergency Control Room (ECR) and Communications Room

Experience:

No formal qualifications or previous experience is required for this role.
The nature of the OSG role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will have a background in customer services or security, and will be assessed based on the following competencies: Acting with integrity, respecting others, Building relationships and team working, communicating effectively, developing self and others.

Full training is provided by the establishment/ department. Training time will be paid at the standard hourly rate.

Security Clearance required:

All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service CTC Security Clearance procedure, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or FULL Birth Certificate & Photo Driving License in your current address.
