Do you want to work for the most exciting media company in the business, covering the best country in the world? The Daily Record is looking for a sports writer to join our award-winning team.

You will have strong knowledge of a range of sports and be experienced writing tight and punchy news copy, entertaining features and up to the minute live blogs.

We are looking for a trainee live sports writer who understands digital storytelling techniques, have superb social media skills, and a deep understanding of how to make content engaging.

Key Responsibilities

• Telling stories through pictures, video, audio, live blogs and other interactive digital storytelling tools, using innovative techniques that grow audiences and engagement
• Using a range of digital formats that will enhance coverage and increase brand visibility
• Providing live coverage of news and events surrounding sporting events
• Writing content responsively, driven by analytics to deliver on audience trends
• Build and use contacts to deliver breaking news and other stories
• Look beyond traditional covering of sport and initiate new ways of storytelling for a growing audience
• Be agile in writing about multiple topics and stories across the day, where audience determines

The Ideal Candidate

• You will preferably be NCTJ qualified (or with equivalent time-served experience or qualifications) and a track record in digital storytelling.
• You'll be comfortable working in digital production, writing creative headlines, picking the best picture and always ensuring we're taking the right line on content.
• You will have an excellent understanding of SEO.
• You'll also be able to pitch creative, interesting and unique ideas to ensure our coverage is a must-read for our audience.
• This role requires working shift patterns which include regular early morning, evening and weekend working.
