Christchurch Group, part of The Active Care Group, is seeking a highly experienced full-time Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist to provide clinical leadership and direction to its specialist brain injury rehabilitation centres in the South of the country.
This is a new role designed to offer the successful individual a chance to work more autonomously whilst taking a lead in planning, shaping and developing the services to meet their current service provision as well as cultivating them to evolve to meet future commissioning needs.
Our services: Within the southern region Christchurch Group boasts three specialist neurological rehabilitation centres, located in Northampton, Bedford, and Oxford. Our patients present with a range of neurological disorders, including acquired brain injury and spinal injury, and comprising conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, tumours, epilepsy, encephalitis, Alcohol-Related Brain Damage, and conditions such as Huntingtons Disease. Our southern services provide both specialist post-acute rehabilitation as well as community-based transitional rehabilitation. Each unit has its own highly trained interdisciplinary team including Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Technicians, Therapy Assistants, Specialist Nurses, and Rehabilitation Assistants, overseen by a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine.
Your skills: The successful candidate will have a wide-ranging knowledge of specialist speech and language therapy assessment and treatment plans. They will evidence their ability to apply skills that complement working in neurological rehabilitation and in the treatment of adults presenting with complex, acquired neurological disorders, including those with disorders of cognitive-communication, and dysphagia which prevent them from achieving independent functioning in daily living.
The successful candidate will
-Have extensive and varied experience working as a band 6 speech and language therapist, or previous experience as a band 7 speech and language therapist
-Be able to demonstrate an ability to assess and manage communication and swallowing disorders, underpinned by the evidence base and innovative approaches
-Be able to work as an autonomous practitioner and as part as a wider interdisciplinary team
-Develop enhanced skills and maintain CPD through self-directed learning, clinical supervision, mentorship and structured training sessions with speech and language therapy colleagues and the interdisciplinary team
-Be responsible for the development, and clinical training and supervision of speech and language therapy students, therapy technicians, rehabilitation assistants and peers
-Support the Service Managers and the Regional Clinical Neuropsychologist in delivering and developing the services.
You will:
-Use your skills and expertise to assist patients to maximise their independence and quality of life.
-Ensure the development and standardisation of high quality, innovative, and evidence based speech and language based rehabilitation practice across the Region.
-Support and advise colleagues on all issues concerned with speech and language practice and provide expert clinical consultation and professional guidance to the interdisciplinary teams at each unit.
This post is subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure the expense of which will be met by the company (please note that this cost will be recovered by the company if you leave within 12 months of your start date).
