The coronavirus pandemic has further highlighted the need for good, quality, social and affordable housing.  The National Housing Federation is the trade body for housing associations in England.  Our members own over 99% of housing association homes in England, providing 2.7m homes to around six million people and reinvests its profit in projects that help create strong, vibrant communities. Housing associations are social landlords, and are the largest providers of homes for social rents in the country. We and our members, believe that everyone should be able to live in a great quality home that they can afford.

We work at the forefront of the political debate not only on housing but on a wide range of other policy issues including welfare, homelessness and climate change. Our work affects the lives of millions of people and diverse communities across the country.
Effective lobbying is central to everything we do. We have built close working relationships at the most senior levels of politics and have established ourselves as the principal organisation on housing issues for the Government and Opposition. We have proven our ability to shape policy decisions.  Most recently we secured a £12.2bn Affordable Homes Programme for new social and affordable homes, in 2020 Spring Budget.
We need you to play a crucial role in this work, leading on public affairs strategies to influence the main political parties on the topics that matter the most to our members. You will work in a focussed and driven team to help ensure housing maintains its political saliency, and housing associations are positioned as the solution to the country’s housing crisis.
We don't need you to be a housing expert. But you will understand how the British political system works, have a good grasp of parliamentary procedure, and have experience of delivering public affairs strategies that have real impact. You will be committed to working collaboratively; have excellent organisational skills; demonstrate exceptional written and oral communication; be able to build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally; and feel confident communicating your ideas appropriately at all levels of the organisations that we engage with.
The NHF has recently published its equality, diversity and inclusion strategy, which was co-created with staff. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and we value the contribution each individual makes to our work.  The NHF is committed to ensuring our workforce reflects the diversity of the society in which we live and encourage applications from people of all different backgrounds, regardless of all protected characteristics or social background.
We are a disability confident employer and if you are a disabled person who demonstrates you meet the skills and experience we consider essential for the role, we will offer you an interview.
