Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Projects Communications Manager (6 Month Fixed Term) to join our Rail team to work in Derby or flexible on location.

Role Purpose:

  • Enhance and protect the reputation of the project through the delivery of an effective internal and external communications and community engagement strategy
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders and have respect to act as a trusted senior adviser on strategic communications matters
  • Embed a 'one team' culture and support delivery of project/regulatory KPI's

You will have the following accountabilties:

As a key member of the project senior team, you will work collaboratively with the Project/Portfolio Director and key partner stakeholders to successfully deliver internal and external communication strategy. The scope of this role includes, but is not limited to, the duties described below:

  • Develop and embed a 'customer led' approach and liaise with project partners to ensure attendance at community relations events - including public exhibitions, community meetings and work site specific community liaison working groups
  • Work closely with BB Helpline/client service teams to develop processes to manage enquiry/complaint resolution in a prompt and professional manner and ensure feedback is captured
  • Attend and participate in project led community liaison working groups Identify potential risks and issues and mitigate through proactive and reactive communication
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders and partners to develop and implement community liaison and investments plans for all project work sites
  • Deliver effective employee engagement activities to educate and reinforce key messages, drive operational productivity and embed a 'one team' approach within the project team
  • Put effective processes in place to manage local investment budgets, maintain written records and drive continuous improvements
  • Work closely with UK Communications team to to align strategic outputs effectively, capture project progress, develop an online presence, talk positively about project successes and ensure protection of the Balfour Beatty brand
  • Refer all media enquiries to the Balfour Beatty Press office, liaise with the team to manage appropriate responses and ensure project-wide compliance of processes
  • Develop and maintain an effective site visit programme, identifying opportunities to showcase expertise, raise profiles and build trust with the local community
  • Develop required project communication channels and a regular calendar of activity, ensuring all content is on brand, accurate and signed off by appropriate stakeholders
  • Support project stakeholders with achievement of Considerate Contractors Scheme
  • Provide regular statisitics/reports to show improvement in customer focus and employee engagement

You will have the following qualities and experience;

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field
  • Extensive experience of working on large building/civil engineering infrastructure projects
  • Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills
  • Self starter with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines
  • Extensive community relations and stakeholder management experience
  • Strong business knowlegde and ability to articulate strategic priorities
  • Team player with ability to influence and negotiate at a senior level
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Good understanding of the media
  • Ability to manage, engage and develop direct reports
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office
