Title: Construction Manager - Civils & Infrastructure Packages
Location: Blyth

ISG have recently secured a GBP500m new build Battery Gigaplant project in Blyth.

We are currently recruiting for a Construction Manager to manage the Civils and Infrastructure pacakges, covering the day-to-day activities of the site team, delivering a quality service and product to our clients in line with the project goals by working with the project team and applying ISG culture, systems and procedures. To develop and maintain good working relationships with customers and other third parties in the best interests of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational management of the civils and infrastructure package.

What will you be doing?

Health, Safety & Environment

• Conduct site inductions along with the checking of operative competencies and credentials
• The construction manager must walk the site regularly throughout the day to monitor safety of operations and environmental conditions. If it looks dangerous, it is; so stop the operation and discuss a better method of work.
• Review, appraisal and approval of subcontractor RAMs and the management of subcontractor's activities to ensure they are working in accordance with the plan. Preparation of RAMS for an direct labour.
• Preparation of weekly site condition & safety reports
• Conducting all required statutory inspections (excavations, scaffold,
• Management and issuing of permits to work for the relevant section of construction activities.
• Ensure all plant is inspected and has the required certification
• Ensure toolbox talks are given on the site in accordance with the toolbox plan set up at the commencement of the contract, or the subcontractors' plan. Operatives to sign training record as evidence of activity.
• Thorough reporting of all H&S best practises and any incidents.
• Reviewing of the construction phase H&S plan to ensure continuous relevance
• Reviewing and implementation of the fire and emergency plan to ensure continuous relevance.
• Ensuring site wide signage is maintained
• Managing the implementation of all environmental controls and monitoring their effectiveness.
• Inspection and management of all temporary works

Construction Management & Delivery

• To work closely with the Senior Construction Manager & Technical Services Manager.
• To work closely with the Health & Safety Manager in planning the works.
• To identify problems and offer solutions prior to and during construction.
• Maintaining a detailed daily site diary, stored digitally within the project document management system.
• Utilising the appropriate metrics, the construction manager will report on daily, weekly and monthly progress for the works within their remit.
• Identify areas of progress risk and highlight to the management team along with proposing containment solutions.
• Planning of all temporary works working closely with the temporary works coordinator.
• Work with the senior construction manager and project manager to produce short term programmes.
• Support the commercial team & project manager with identifying, recording and managing any change to the scope of works.
• To chair trade contractor coordination meetings and leading of the start right sessions. The construction manager would then close each day out with the subcontractors to understand and document the achievements.
• Review of drawings with the design team for buildability, commutating the designs with operatives on site and managing the works conformity to design.
• Produce regular site progress reports supported by site photos and documented accordingly.

Logistics

• Working with the onsite logistics contractor the construction manager is to ensure the traffic management plan is continuously update and kept relevant
• Ensuring all pedestrian footpaths are maintained and segregated from plant & traffic
• Conduct waste management review on contractors
• Maintaining the ultimate standard of house keeping
• Management of onsite dewatering, dust suppression and environmental containment measures

Quality

• Review the plan on a monthly basis to ensure still meets current project scope & requirements
• Proactively implementing the Zero Defects and absolute completion Initiatives, and where required conducting snag and defect inspections of finished works and documenting the findings. The construction manager should then close out all defects with the trade contractors
• Raise and record quality concerns and issues with the relevant subcontractor and resolve with haste

Skills & experience

• Previous experience of successfully carrying out a similar role to a high quality.
• Highly IT proficient
• Fully conversant with CDM and all relevant Health & Safety legislation and previous experience of successful implementation on a major project.
• 5 years' experience on a major civil engineering schemes
• Thorough understanding of below ground services and utility installation
• Managed major piling operations
• In addition to general knowledge of common building and service trade, has greater in-depth knowledge and expertise in some specific areas e.g. slab construction, piling, earthworks ect.
• Fully proficient IT skills, inclusive of AutoCAD software and the Microsoft suite of office programme inclusive of teams and remote working abilities, BIM 365 & SharePoint.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification, preferably in civil engineering.
• Civil engineering degree preferred
• SMSTS Desirable
