Product Development - Medical Foam / Advanced Wound Care

The Role:
Reporting directly to the Site Manager, Ebbw Vale and functionally to the R&D Manager in Europe the main function of this role will be to manage the R&D portfolio and contribute towards the development of new products and processes in order that market potential is fully realised.
* Manage the programme of technical development activity, balancing risk and commercial reward, to ensure that the return from R&D activity is optimised.
* Lead new product development projects and work with medical sales teams to manage the technical aspects of development for existing and potential customers.
* Identify how the business can exploit new product development opportunities within the medical market to increase the product portfolio, reduce costs, improve product quality and reduce risk to the end consumer.
* Work with key suppliers to develop new raw materials, formulations and product specifications to safeguard the long term future of the product.
* Work with European, Chinese and North American sales teams to develop detailed commercial understanding of new opportunities, and ensure new developments can return appropriate margins.
* Horizon scanning to maintain an awareness of emerging legislative and regulatory issues and their potential impact on the business.
* Maintain R&D documentation to comply with ISO 13485.
* Co-ordination with corporate & local development groups to direct product/process.
* Manage site projects including on time reviews.
* Provide customer technical support on global scale.
* Represent the medical foam business at trade fairs and conferences as required.
The Person:
* Ideally qualified to Masters level in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Materials Science, you will possess solid experience of technical product development in a medical applications environment.
* With proven project management skills, you will be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of quality and medical standards (13485, 14971 and 10993) together with appropriate environmental and safety standards (14001 and 18001). HSE specific skills especially COSHH & REACH are also required.
* Good commercial awareness with the ability to effectively manage resources to optimise return and align R&D activity to strategic business aims.
* You will possess high order software literacy - predominantly the MS Office suite of products and a mainstream ERP system such as SAP.
* Energy, commitment, positive communication & presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders are all prerequisites
