Westbank is a registered charity established in 1986 and became company limited by guarantee in 2007. The organisation was originally set up to provide practical and emotional support to people in the villages along the west bank of the River Exe. The organisation now works with communities and individuals across Devon.

Devon Carers is one of the largest and most successful carer’s services in the UK, providing information and support to 20,000 unpaid carers of all ages, and is the focus for the delivery of a number of services for unpaid carers of all ages across Devon. These include:

Awareness-raising and identification of unpaid carers of all ages;
A countywide helpline, providing easy access to information and support;
A team of support staff facilitating drop-in sessions, carers support groups, school-based activities and time-limited one-to-one support.

Our Hospital Services Team provide up to six weeks wellbeing support to unpaid Carers when either they, or the person they care for, has been discharged from hospital.

Overall Job Purpose

Supporting the Hospital Services Manager with:

Day to day line management and support to a team of Carers Hospital Liaison Workers and Hospital Support Workers;
Ensuring all staff effectively deliver the contracted services for carers;
Support the team to ensure Hospital Services work, including carers assessments, are completed safely and effectively;
Fully understand the carers assessments process and be able to support the team;
Support the team by holding a caseload and also taking on some of the more complex casework;
Occasional facilitation of team meetings and representing the team at wider team meetings when required;
Work closely with HS Manager and Implementation Manager to develop Hospital Services;
Gathering of information for reporting purposes.

Shortlisting Criteria:

Experience of managing staff, motivating teams and recruiting new staff members;
Experience of providing one-to-one advice or support in a similar/relevant role;
An empathy with carers and volunteers and an understanding of their needs;
NVQ III or equivalent qualification in Health and Social Care or another relevant field, or willingness to work towards such a qualification;
Understanding of legislation and principles of GDPR (data protection);
Car owner/driver (or otherwise able to satisfy with appropriate adjustments, requirements for travel associated with the role);
Ability to assess information, apply eligibility criteria, and plan appropriate actions and support to carers at risk of developing or who have eligible needs;
Understanding of principles of confidentiality and equal opportunities.

Location: Exeter / Working from Home 

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2022
