What you'll do

An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Data Engineer to join one of our most exciting areas - the Data tribe. If you thrive in a fast paced, collaborative environment and share our passion for working with the newest technology across Data, then we're looking to hear from you!

Ideally, you will have existing experience in either software or data pipeline engineering and possess the ability to drive your team, delivering the right value at the right time.

You'll help advance the means by which data flows into and out of our data warehouse to better enable all other areas of the business, all while maintaining our high standards in security and compliance. You'll enshrine the best working practices possible within your team and will facilitate the continued development of both the people and the products.

This role forms part of Data's local leadership team, who collectively strive to improve ways of working, and champion the initiatives needed to improve our offerings to the business and our customers. As well as this, you'll be part of a wider community of Lead Data Engineers within the tribe and collectively work with leadership to ensure that we're giving your team the best support possible.

How you'll do

Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will lead a small team of Data Engineers focused on the delivery of products in alignment with key business areas, such as the company's betting functions, gaming functions or customer operations. This will include typical line management duties day-to-day, such as regular 1-to-1s, holding career development conversations and providing coaching and mentorship.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will???

Foster a culture in which the team can surface and discuss their ideas openly and considerately.

Work alongside product owners, business analysts, solution architects, principal engineers, data scientists and key stakeholders outside of your team to ensure that upcoming work is accurately defined, designed and prioritised.

Assist in breaking down project requirements into smaller delivery phases to allow for earlier realisation of the potential value.

Take ownership for code quality, security and scalability and have an equal grasp of the overall system you are working on and how it meets the needs of the end users, and business objectives.

Understand the work needed to improve stability and performance of your team's products, and will champion the work required to achieve this.

Understand the importance of data quality, and instil this value in your team.

Whilst this role is not primarily a "hands-on" engineering role, there may be the need or opportunity to get close to the action at times.

Experience of the Hadoop ecosystem is advantageous, as is any practical understanding of cloud-based data warehousing / data lake technologies
