Main purpose of role:
The key deliverable for this role is to produce bespoke professionally written proposals for our Enterprise, SME and Public sectors. This is a managing role, in a complex environment, that requires ownership and project management of key stakeholders to contribute towards and deliver successful bids for large and/or complex requirements.
The Proposal Manager will provide valuable input into opportunity qualification, win strategies, commercial discussions, and solution design as well as produce and manage the bid or proposal document for sign off by the Proposal Management Team Leader and/or Sales Management lead.
Key accountabilities include:
To fully produce compliant, professionally produced proposals within bid timeframes. Responsible for contributing 90%+ of a bid proposal. In practical terms this means the role would be answering 90%+ of the questions asked on a bid; with answers being extracted from existing bid library content and drafting original content.
Manage multiple bids at any one time including complex and high value tenders.
To manage the bid qualification (bid go / no go) process for new opportunities where appropriate.
Lead conference calls and meetings with project / presales leads and any other stakeholder for complex, high profile bids. Ensure relevant people are notified / briefed before initial call.
Facilitate key review meetings / final document review, coordinating proposal governance / and sign-off with applicable parties.
Review the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer.
Support sales teams in modelling the risks and financial impact of any anticipated negotiation. Help in calculating the best and final offer.
To communicate and influence at a senior level across all services in order to procure accurate and up to date information, which ensures accurate and relevant data is used in bid documentation.
Draft / re-write / edit proposal responses from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, development / product teams and support functions such as finance and HR.
Re-write or draft bid library content for approval by Subject Matter Experts or Head of Sales Enablement & Knowledge.
Ensure proposal documents follow required formatting and quality standards.
Deliver completed written proposal responses against agreed deadlines in line with internal governance procedures.
Challenge bid/no bid decisions made by Sales Leadership.
Supporting Proposal Coordinators and Senior Proposal Coordinators as required to ensure high quality proposals are produced; including assessing submitted proposals to identify areas for improvement.
Assisting the Proposal Manager Team Leader & Head of Sales Enablement & Knowledge in coaching and mentoring new starters, and the continuous training and development of all staff.Key relationships:
The role will require establishing, building, and maintaining close relationships across the Direct business, including Pre-sales, Sales, Commercials, Projects, Marketing, and others as required. There will also be a need to build relationships with 3rd party suppliers when they are supporting and contributing to the bid process.
Person requirements:
Able to allocate to bid contributors and ensure review processes are timely and contributions are compliant and high quality. Have the competency to identify incomplete or inaccurate information and return it to the contributor to redraft.
Excellent writing skills, able to respond to email communications and contribute to bid content with an eye for detail and excellent grammatical skills. Able to consistently achieve high quality written communication that reflects the standards set by the team.
Able to communicate with all relevant product specialists, to ensure content remains relevant and up-to-date, and able to reflect these discussions in well written and accurate content, maintaining the business writing style.
Ability to demonstrate excellent editing and formatting skills, in order to edit other people's work to a high standard.
Ability to write material for the bid content library, checking accuracy with subject matter experts and regular reviews and updates are timetabled.
Able to deal with multiple, varied, complex and high value tenders at the same time, and able to quickly identify key priorities in each, ensuring all clarifications are asked.
