Warehouse Shift Manager
GBP43,000 - GBP47,000 dependant on experience (Grade D17)
Day shift 6am to 2pm, 5 days over 7
Biggleswade depot
We're looking for experienced and people-focused warehouse shift manager to help us stand up our new, state of the art distribution centre in Biggleswade.
Opening in January 2022, Biggleswade will be our flagship depot in the heart of Bedfordshire; the biggest, most sustainable and high-tech regional distribution centre in our network.
Working closely with the warehouse operations manager and other key partners, you'll manage all aspects of the warehouse operation on a particular shift; leading and developing a multi-skilled team of up to 250 indirect and direct reports and creating an inclusive and engaging culture within depot. It's a big job. But an exciting one. If you can bring us the previous warehouse people management experience we need, we can offer you the chance to develop your skills, build a career and help shape the future of this brand-new depot.
What you'll do:
• take ownership of the day to day running of the shift, managing 10-11 team managers and up to 250 warehouse colleagues
• inspire, engage and coach your team to be highly efficient within the warehouse operation
• successfully meet deadlines and critical measures through effective team management
• develop and build positive relationships with a range of key business partners
• drive warehouse standards, procedures and policies, having a strong presence within the warehouse arenas
• think about continuous improvement in depot, and look areas to improve processes and ways of working across your team and the wider warehouse operation
This role would suit people who have:
• previous experience working in a warehouse, distribution or FMCG environment
• strong people leadership skills and experience of managing a sizeable team, focusing on performance management
• a passion for supporting, engaging and developing others; you know how to get the best out of your colleagues
• the ability to lead and deliver change in a fast-paced environment
• strong relationship management experience with the ability to communicate, collaborate and influence people at all levels
• a strategic approach, always thinking about continuous improvements and ways of working
• strong warehouse operating systems knowledge and experience
• proven experience of building relationships and working in a unionised environment
Why Co-op?
As a Co-op colleague you'll do work that matters in an organisation where principles are just as important as profits. You'll also get a package that includes:
• a competitive salary
• private health cover
• an annual incentive scheme
• 28 days holiday
• discounts on Co-op products and services
• a pension with up to 10% employer contributions
Building an inclusive workplace
We're actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone. But simply having a diverse workforce is not enough. We want to create an inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences, and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities they serve.
We can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs. And we offer a flexible working environment so you can adjust your hours to suit your personal circumstances. You can find out more about Co-op people policies at (url removed)/peoplepolicies.
As part of your application you'll need to complete an online assessment. It will take you around 12 minutes to complete this test
