Nicholas Howard Limited are delighted to be recruiting for a new and exciting role as an Assistant Accountant.
Based in Sheffield, the Assistant Accountant will work in the finance department, undertaking a variety of tasks which will assist the Group with all finance and accounting requirements.
The primary objectives of the role are:
- Process invoices in a timely manner to ensure they are paid in accordance with due dates.
- Bank reconciliations of both collections and corporate accounts.
- Balance sheet reconciliations.
- Client collections reconciliations and cash sweeps.
- Mortgage settlements.
- Assisting with month end, all tasks to be completed by WD 4/5.
Core Responsibilities:
- Review, analyse and submit Direct Debits to BACS.
- Reconcile a wide variety of bank accounts on a regular basis and resolve any unreconciled differences by working with other parts of the business. Must be updated and completed by WD1.
- Maintain Google Sheets which are used to predict group wide cash flows.
- Setting up and authorising daily mortgage settlement payments for over GBP1 million per day with a high degree of accuracy on a range of different banking platforms.
- Posting journals and intercompany journals.
- Purchased accounts effective yields against the original book purchase price.
- Assisting the mortgage department with any Operational Finance query they may have.
- Complete all month end activities including group allocations & recharges by WD 5.
- Assist with year-end audit queries, gather the required information in a timely manner.
- Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are up to date each month and shared with the finance team.
- Maintain a monthly Google sheet shared with all managers to ensure employee time allocations by department are updated accordingly, following up with managers to ensure data is completed for month end tasks.
Skills & Requirements
Essential:
- Experience of working in a similar role within a Finance function.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Good organisational and administrative skills with a proven ability to prioritise tasks.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
- Strong MS Office Excel and/or Google Sheets experience, including Excel formulas.
- Strong mathematical skills and able to manage large data sets to provide analysis.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of FCA regulation and DPA/GDPR principles.
- Educated to degree level, minimum 2:1.
- Studying towards a finance qualification (AAT/CIMA/ACCA).
