You have a strong background in co-ordinating and leading activities that bring together team produced research and analyses into insightful, accessible reports and papers for publication to a range of audiences. You will have achieved this by being able to develop, plan and initiate activities that bring together a range of specialists across research, policy and communication disciplines. Underpinning this will be excellent report writing experience. Ideally these will have been developed within a public policy environment. You know how to specify requirements, briefing colleagues and external experts about the evidence and analysis required. You will be able to scope and develop written outputs by identifying key themes and findings that need to be explored and then built into high impact, high profile publications. You can quickly grasp a wide range of complex issues drawing these into accessible and engaging insights. That's why you'd be perfect for the role of Senior Research and Insight Project Lead at the General Medical Council (GMC) in Manchester.

The GMC helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards and take action when they are not met. With this in mind, it is vital that we anticipate, identify and mitigate potential risks - and our Data, Research and Insight Hub has an integral role to play in supporting this.

Your primary focus will be taking a leading role in co-ordinating research and insight projects that lead to the production and publication of high profile, high impact publications. You will project manage and conduct activities that bring together a range of primary and secondary evidence sources on doctors and the wider healthcare environment to provide insight into the future of healthcare and related policy. This means the required evidence gathering by coordinating and scheduled work plans. Ultimately, you will bring together your skills to oversee the content creation for the delivery of a suite of insight reports and papers on health matters that are published for a wide range of audiences. You will be one of a team of authors on the report so will need to able to work collaboratively on joining together analysis and messaging.

An understanding of regulatory and public policy environments will be a distinct advantage. You will have the flexibility to respond to the changing needs of our organisation and fast-moving policy environment. You should have a sound understanding of research management, horizon scanning and other environmental analysis techniques, while experience of working within a policy and research team would be ideal.

Due to Covid 19, the successful applicant will commence working from home with a supportive induction package, with a plan to return to an office based role at a later date. As with our usual arrangements we will be able to offer a number of routine home working days per week once we have returned to the office.
