Gi Group are currently recruiting for a LGV/ HGV driver to work for our client based in Hovingham, York.
Main Purpose of Job
* Responsible for delivery of bulk animal feed to farms
* Loading feed at site and unloading at farm locations using pneumatic discharge equipment
Key Outputs - these are the main results which the job must deliver to achieve the purpose
* Delivery of loads as per delivery instructions, utilising the most efficient transport routes to minimise
drive time and maximise fuel efficiency
* Set up and test out blowing pipes prior to engaging blower unit
* Accepting instruction of daily loads as requested by Transport Planner
* Driver's daily walkaround check using CheckedSafe and reporting of vehicle defects
* Responsible for changing headlight bulbs, taillight bulbs (replenishing cab bulb kit), blowing up slack
tyres, topping up engine oil
* Efficient use of switch mode to comply with regulation whilst optimising the working day
* Monitoring of tachograph and working time in order to comply with regulation
* Loading, to include self-loading vehicle across several compartments, ensuring goods are safe and
secure prior to departure and in line with UFAS requirements
* At the end of each day loading vehicle (production permitting) for the following day
* Collection of raw materials in accordance with instructions as and when requested
* Presentation of vehicle at Garages for timely maintenance, service and repairs
* Fuelling up of vehicle
* Regular greasing of required vehicle points as per procedure
* Cleaning of vehicle in accordance with procedure
* Keeping vehicle in good condition and maintaining a clean and tidy cab at all times
* Follow step by step computer system despatch/weighbridge processes outside of office hours
* Informing the Transport Planner of any deliveries which differ from the original instructions, such as
left- over feed returned to Mill or redirected to neighbouring Farms
* Following health and safety procedure at all times, reporting back to the office re any potential risks to
personnel or Company equipment
* Completion of farm risk assessment

Key Skills - these are desirable skills / experience / qualifications required
* HGV Class C (Class 2) or Class CE (Class 1)
* CPC trained
* Safe & economical driving for efficient fuel consumption and driver behaviour i.e. harsh braking
applications, idling, coasting, speeding etc
* Good time management
* Efficient route planning
* Strong focus on delivering excellent customer service
* Good interpersonal skills
* Pleasant and courteous manner to maintain the Company's reputation at all times
* Hold digital tachograph card
* Appreciation of on-farm environments
This is a temporary role paying GBP12.79 per hour and is 48 hours per week. The role will involve working 7 days a week on a rota basis over a 3 week period and work 4 days a week. Less than 6 points on your licence and full UK driving licence is required.
