Plant Manager required to join a marketing leading manufacturing business in Telford. The purpose of the job is to liaise, plan and oversee the running of the operations area.

As Plant Manager you will lead all functions with direct supports, from H&S, Production, Process control, and Product Quality to allow timely delivery to our customer to agreed OTIF and RFT targets whilst ensuring the highest level of margin possible. The Plant Manager will play a key role, working with and reporting to the General Manager, in defining, developing and executing the strategic operational capability and output of the business, whilst ensuring the highest standards of EHSQ. The Plant Manager will have direct responsibility of the Senior Works Manager, & Maintenance Engineer and Welders.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Develop a strategic operational road map to ensure that operational KPI's are met and reported through tier 1-4 level meetings where applicable.
  • Manage any capital investment plan without compromising output and service to customers.
  • Monitor and review production and delivery trends to ensure Sales are aware of any new opportunities and losses.
  • Empower teams to find, analyse and solve production and supply chain problems with corrective actions.
  • Manage output increases/decreases in line with company expectations QCDP.
  • Work closely with the commercial teams and General Manager to understand demand and forecast to ensure the appropriate resources are in place to manage OTIF.
  • Work closely with the HR Manager to ensure the appropriate people resources are in place to manage day to day requirements including, but not limited to: training needs, disciplinaries, holiday cover, First Aid training, appraisals and succession planning.
  • Liaising with associated departments in order to ensure the efficient flow of materials and technical support to meet production requirements.
  • Overall responsibility for assessing the training requirements of all staff on the Production Plants, whilst also ensuring training records are kept up to date and training is arranged and delivered where required. In conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer / Trainer you will also be responsible for all HSE requirements and training such as Manual Handling.
  • Adhering to ISO 45001 Standard and carrying work out in line with the required standard.
  • Liaising with the Senior Works Manager to ensuring corrective actions are opened, closed and dealt with in a timely manner, all corrective action work is completed correctly, whilst also complying with ISO requirements.
  • Regularly review maintenance records held by the Maintenance department and Welders ensuring they are completed to the required standard.
  • Carry out and documenting visual checks of equipment as required, including but not limited to: supporting beams, plant equipment and machinery, fork lift trucks and electrical equipment.
  • Attend huddle meetings with the wider team at regular intervals (to be determined). To include introducing daily shift huddles at the start of each shift, introducing a shift changeover system and regular team talks.
  • In conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer / Trainer, you will be responsible for compliance of EHSQ with any breaches reported to Senior Management.
  • In conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer / Trainer, you will enforce all safe systems of work procedures that have been issued and ensuring all Health and Safety guidelines and current legislation are adhered to, to ensure the wellbeing of all staff, contractors and visitors, and maintain an acceptable level of housekeeping in all areas.
  • In the absence of the Health & Safety Officer / Trainer, you will host HSE spot inspection visits and any other local authority visits required to ensure the safe running of the business.
  • In conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer / Trainer you will oversee the IPPC Environmental permit alongside the General Manager

The successful Plant Manager will have the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive Plant Management experience of working in a similar manufacturing environment
  • Must have an affinity for people with a strong desire to share knowledge and experience.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of practical and theoretical 'lean' manufacturing initiatives.
  • Good oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams.

  • Good understanding of Business Management Systems.
