The Pioneer Group, working in partnership with Birmingham City Council and the West Midland Police & Crime Commission, have been successful in securing Safer Streets Funding from the Home Office for a targeted area within Stockland Green in North Birmingham. This will enable investment in target hardening improvements such as better street lighting and CCTV alongside wider community safety improvements for residents alongside an ambitious and intensive programme of community development.
Already a deprived neighbourhood, as categorised by the 2019 Index of Multiple of Deprivation, the area is characterised by a significant concentration of vulnerable resident’s living in houses in multiple occupation / exempt accommodation with significant support needs. West Midlands Police have characterised the area as one of their six impact areas with over a 100 crimes a day being reported on a daily basis in 2019.
Despite the significant challenges there is a sense of optimism amongst partners and the community with a new ward forum soon to consult on a new neighbourhood plan and the amazing volunteering endeavour of Stockland Green Action Group, Friends of Brookvale Park and Highcroft Committee.
This funding is an opportunity to build on this and bring tangible results for the community as part of a wider plan to recover Stockland Green. Working in the Partnerships Team in the Pioneer Group, engaging with local partners community organisations this is a chance to make a difference.
