One person in five in the UK is affected by lung disease. As the only UK charity for people affected by all lung and respiratory diseases – from mild asthma through to lung cancer – the Asthma UK-British Lung Foundation Partnership is here for every one of them. We provide support, fund vital research, and campaign for better prevention, treatment and care.

This is a fantastic opportunity to pilot a new model of engagement for the organisation. Concentrating on the North East, you’ll be at the forefront of recruiting and mobilising committed, motivated volunteers, so that they can provide invaluable peer to peer support in their communities. Alongside that, you’ll give these groups the tools and knowledge to fundraise and raise awareness of our work to ensure that they are not just sustainable but can continue to grow to the meet the need. An excellent communicator, you’ll bring together a variety of stakeholders, from service providers and healthcare professionals, to external support organisations and key volunteers to make a positive impact on lung health in the area.

You’ll play a key role in bringing together the work of our fundraising and services directorates, working across teams to demonstrate the value of creating a sustainable support model for our beneficiaries. We’re looking for someone to really make this role their own and make recommendations for how we can improve and optimise the way in which we motivate and recruit our volunteers. You’ll be experienced in establishing and developing relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders, with excellent communication and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritise. Initial recruitment is for 12 months with scope to extend the contract to 3 years dependent on the impact and innovation demonstrated by the ideal candidate.

You’re joining our team at an exciting time as we are at the very beginning of defining what our priorities as a merged organisation are, and how we can best support our beneficiaries so this is an excellent role for someone looking for a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in their career. We are at the beginning of establishing an ambitious 5 year strategy which will transform the future of lung health in the UK. We sincerely hope you’ll be a part of that.

As well as a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), pension scheme, our cycle-to-work scheme, and interest-free annual season Travelcard loan.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an organisation committed to supporting everyone whose life is changed by lung disease.
