GBP30,000 - Fixed Term Contract - Remote (Homeworking)

The Position

Over the years Mears has continued to build upon its broad range of in house developed systems, the success of this has been built on the foundation of a brilliant and highly skilled development and test team.

Mears continue to push the envelope for their in house solutions, delivering responsive, secure and performant applications across a varied mix of platforms. To support this it is essential that the software is fit for purpose, delivers on its promises and is bug free.

The next 12 - 24 months sees some very exciting and high profile projects in the pipeline and as such we are looking to expand our team.

To this extent we are looking to recruit and grow our Test team and are looking for a Test Analyst. As a Test Analyst you will be part of a team who ensure that the Mears Business systems which are written and developed in house meet the required standards and functionality. Initially on a 12 month fixed term but with the potential for extension.

You will create test plans and test scripts to ensure the development work passes the specification developed against. You will be responsible for running these tests and documenting results.

  • You will work with Development and the Business Analysts to develop and maintain a set of core tests.
  • The role covers a number of areas and roles within the department from BA, Development, Integration, Support, Analysis and Solution Definition and therefore, you must actively be involved in numerous projects, initiatives and tasks at the same time
  • Identify process strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement by system analysis
  • Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed solution
  • Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner
  • Communicates needed changes to development team
  • Assists in enforcement of project deadlines and schedules
  • Communicates and applies project standards
  • Attend and participate in meetings when required and provide feedback
  • Complies with all Health and Safety policies and legislation in the performance of their duties and responsibilities
  • Maintains confidentiality and observes data protection guidelines
  • Carries out any other reasonable duties within the overall function commensurate with the grading and level of responsibilities of the post
  • Communicate regularly with the Development Team and other internal Stakeholders.

What are we looking for?

  • Appropriate Testing Qualification and practical experiencing of working in a test environment in a commercially led business.
  • Ability to create test plans and scripts based on existing processes and specifications and then apply to software systems
  • Knowledge and some practical experience using SQL
  • Strong analytical approach to testing software products against specification as well as common sense logic
  • A good understanding of the development process and an understanding that your commitment to them is also important to the success of the team
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative within agreed timescales
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong negotiation skills when agreeing issues, timescales and quality.
  • Awareness of Financial processes, ensuring system test plans reflect required calculations when processed and results are correct.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in critical situations
  • Strong customer service orientation.

As Mears has a footprint across the country there will be a degree of travel expected to attend meetings in our Exeter office. However, we can be flexible in terms of your location as the majority of your time will be spent remote working.
