Our client based in Sunderland are looking to recruit a general handyman/maintenance person on a temporary to permanent basis.

You will provide a first line response to clients in a professional customer focused manner. Working as part of a busy team offering maintenance services and general upkeep of the site and its buildings. The site comprises of 8 buildings over 14 acres and houses over 140 tenant companies, who also offer conferencing/training facilities all of which brings visitors to the site on a regular basis and therefore requires the individual to have excellent customer care and communication skills both oral and written, with the confidence to liaise with personnel at all levels, tenants, staff, visitors and contractors alike.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide a first line response to customers in a professional customer focused manner

Responding to planned, non-planned and emergency work

Carry out light maintenance and repair work within your skill level, taking into account your own health and safety

Identifying and reporting of any defects, rectifying where possible

Provide support services to ensure buildings/rooms are functional and suitable for use

Work within framework and expectations set out by the Company

Provide safe access to buildings in adverse weather, gritting, clearing of snow etc.

Assist with carrying out weekly testing of fire protection systems, monthly emergency lighting testing and regular fire door inspections and recording of information.

Assist with the water hygiene checks and recording of information

Assist with the sorting, franking and delivering of mail within timescales set out by Royal Mail

Assist in ensuring all hard and soft landscaping is maintained and keep free from rubbish

To attend and contribute to team meetings

Contributing to the management of contractors and that the works being carried out by them are completed to a satisfactory level

To assist in all premises related health, safety and welfare issues at the centre, and a safe environment for all users, including the maintenance and safe storage of all maintenance team equipment.

A customer focused attitude, with excellent communication skills is essential for this role as the successful candidate will have regular face to face contact with tenants and clients. A good team ethos is also essential for this small but busy team along with the ability to be flexible and occasionally working at the other Centres.

The rate of pay is GBP9.28 an hour based on a 39.5 hour week to suit business operations, between the hours of 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday
