Our Hastings site is unique to TE Connectivity, as it is only one of a few sites where it has all functions needed on site to take raw material in and ship a fully functional connector out to its customers. Hastings manufactures connectors for harsh environments, particularly for Military, Aerospace, and Autosport. The Role

As a R&D/Product Development Engineer you will be responsible for defining and designing solutions for the Fibre Optic (FO) product ranges according to customer or market requirements and support existing FO product ranges. You will ensure that innovative designs can be profitably manufactured and that they meet or exceed expectations and objectives. This will include engineering analysis of designs, coordination of sample builds, and oversight of verification/qualification testing.

The position will require direct communication with external customers and suppliers, as well as interaction with internal business development, manufacturing, quality, and testing functions. Some domestic and/or international travel may be required.

You will be responsible for providing a structured design engineering approach from concept to production, so that deadlines for new products are met with minimized variations that cause waste, in accordance with the Lean Design Product Development Process.

Creating detailed designs, in line with company procedures, project timescales and the cost estimates, that can be profitably manufactured and that meet or exceed the customers' design expectations. Complete product verification using simulation / prototype testing and final product qualification testing. Where needed drive failure analysis and implementation of corrective actions

About You

• The ideal candidate will hold previous experience within a similar R&D/Product Development Engineer position.
• Ideally hold a BSc or equivalent in Mechanical / Electro Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in the design and manufacture of fibre optic (FO) assemblies and components is preferred.
• Experience with design and test of ruggedized FO for harsh environments in defence and aerospace applications an advantage.
• 3 years CAD background, Solidworks preferred
• 3 years Autocad
