Who are we looking for?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join UKAEA and support the group in the provision of engineering services and assisting in the delivery of engineering projects across all RACE projects. This will include the assembly, commissioning, operating and maintenance of a wide range of specialist electromechanical equipment such as telemanipulators, transporters, welding, cutting, handling and inspection devices enabling remote handling maintenance, assemble and inspection tasks to be performed.

If you have a recognised engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent) with a relevant qualification and experience in engineering and workshop technology, including fitting, assembly, maintenance, and inspection as well as a proven capability of working from detailed drawings and schematics, we are keen to hear from you. You will be involved in a variety of work with a constant flow of new projects coming into the department so you will be required to be methodical and organised with good attention to detail.

What will you be responsible for?

* Supporting general workshop practices and safe working (work to a high standard of accuracy and finish while undertake general workshop tasks such as turning, milling, fitting, fabrication etc.)

* Creating and editing technical documentation

* Maintaining specialist remote handling equipment

* Managing operation of the remote handling equipment and assembly of work cell and equipment in preparation of project delivery.

* Commissioning of servo manipulator and articulated booms

* Working with Task Responsible Officer to highlight any design or manufacturing issues during assembly, offer technical support and solutions to rectify issues.

* Maintaining complex electromechanical equipment to a high standard of precision and cleanliness often in challenging environments with high levels of PPE. (mechanical assembly and dismantle)

During JET interventions technicians are required to work shifts patterns, these shifts consist of an early and late shift. Early shift times are 6.00 am to 15.45 pm and late shift times are 15.30pm to 1.15am. At RACE we have multiple area's that we maintain our equipment in that are beryllium controlled. This requires a level of R.P.E and P.P.E, this consists of full face respirator, coveralls, rubber gloves and steel toe cap wellington boots
