Background and Role

IMCD UK is based in Sutton, Surrey, and employs around 180 people. The UK IT team are looking to recruit a junior IT Assistant to join their existing team of 3, reporting into the System Support Analysist. The candidate will be providing first line support to the UK business, maintaining (uptime) for our staff and helping to improve our IT infrastructure where required.

Your responsibilities at IMCD

This is an ideal opportunity for someone in the early stages of their career within IT. On-the-job training with the help of the UK IT team will be provided, with external training opportunities in the future being a possibility to aid their ability and progression within the company. The duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing first line support for our 180 staff across the UK, Ireland and Egypt.
  • Day-to-day maintenance and monitoring our infrastructure, backups, and security appliances.
  • Rolling out updates to computers and other devices when required.
  • Physical work will be involved - from re-cabling desks, server cabinets, repairing hardware, etc.
  • Administrative duties - the logging of assets, stocking of consumables, etc.
  • Setting up end user hardware - laptops, desktops, mobile phones etc.
  • Troubleshooting - client software, network stability, hardware faults, etc.
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies applicable to our environment and help implement them where necessary.
  • Assume other responsibilities when other members of the IT team are out of the office.

Ideal CandidateMust have skills

  • Have a keen interest in the tech industry and in computing. We are looking for someone who is familiar with current technology and actively keeps up to date with changes in the IT sector.
  • Have a good understanding of computer client hardware - from physically repairing and upgrading computers, to understanding how operating systems are installed and configured.
  • Have good communication skills. The ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience will be important, including the production of high quality, clear documentation to advise users about system upgrades and changes in working practice.
  • Be good at problem solving and be persistent when finding solutions.
  • Be a team player, who is open and happy to discuss solutions and ideas for improvement with the rest of the IT team.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel

Desirable skills

  • A knowledge of LANs, Active Directory, file servers, etc,
  • Has a willingness to learn about the aspects of IT that they haven't yet had exposure to. Additional training can be provided.
  • Work experience in the IT sector
  • A degree or IT related qualification or equivalent work experience
  • Some experience in a customer service environment
