Hours of work - Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours

ESS's Client, is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of Gas Analysis products including Gas Chromatographs, Process Gas Analyzers, and Laser Analyzers. With operations in the US and Europe, they are revolutionizing the speed and accuracy with which gases can be analyzed across a wide range of market segments, serving diverse applications in process industries such as Natural Gas, Chemical, Refining, and Power, and hybrid industries such as Food & Beverage, Aerosol, and Life Science.

They now need to hire an Instrumentation Scientist to further support development of state-of-the-art gas analysers in their Advanced Research Lab.

As an Instrumentation Scientist you will be developing & testing innovative solutions to complex spectroscopy problems and ensuring that new products meet customer requirements. This role requires an individual with a methodical approach to problem solving, attention to detail and an understanding of how the products operate. You will be supporting the development of new products, and helping ensure that Our Client continues to deliver world class analysers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Supporting the development of innovative solutions to complex gas analysis problems
* Assisting in the validation of new concept designs through testing and data analysis
* Presentation of test results in a clear, concise way
* Actively providing feedback to the design teams to improve the product range
* Problem solving and fault resolution when necessary
* Work to relevant Engineering work processes and QHSE procedures and take action for improvement whenever needed
* Other responsibilities or tasks that are within your skills and abilities, whenever reasonably instructed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:
* Relevant degree in chemistry, physics or an engineering discipline
* Experience with analytical equipment, such as spectrometers and environmental chambers
* Hands on laboratory experience, ideally with gas handling experience. The ability and confidence to work with minimal supervision in a laboratory environment
* Attention to detail and ability to accurately record and analyse data.
* Ability to precisely communicate results to colleagues.

Desirable: * Masters or PhD in relevant discipline
* Knowledge of spectroscopy techniques and/or opto-mechanical design
* Experience of aligning lasers and optical systems
* Experience in MATLAB or Python
