Systems Design Engineer

Would you like to see a product that you helped design and developed make its way on to a Royal Navy Warship in a technically challenging and demanding role? We currently have a vacancy for a Systems Design Engineer at our site in New Malden or Broad Oak.

As a Systems Design Engineer, you will be working with the System Design Authority and interacting and engaging with engineers. This will cover a wide spectrum of skills across a number of significant projects that are currently in various stages of the lifecycle.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to take on significant responsibility and ownership of technical issues with a focus on delivery. The role is a stepping stone to a System Design Authority role.

Your main responsibilities as a Systems Design Engineer will involve:

Understanding the technical aspects of the system under development and being a focal point for technical issues with an onus on hardware aspects

Developing System Design Information and documentation with a focus on hardware aspects

Processing and leading on system and hardware definition changes

Supporting trouble shooting of system-wide issues

Providing Systems Design support across teams as required covering software, systems and particularly hardware

Tracking and leading on problems and issue resolution across software, systems and hardware

Pulling together System Design delivery documentation, particularly in the hardware domain

Supporting project governance aspects

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience of COTS hardware and delivery of systems

Experience of complete systems lifecycle

System experience of a similar kind to Shared Infrastructure (SI) (e.g. COTS based hardware, COTS and developed software, virtualised solution)

Experience of System Design work, Requirements Management etc

Experience of design document creation and system level details capture

Desirable:

Some experience of enacting project governance from a hardware perspective

Some experience of Networking, Virtualisation, SAN & VDI technologies

Naval System experience an advantage

Degree qualified, likely to be in a technology, engineering or science related discipline or equivalent working experience
